lift bolts suck!

I went to change mine the other day and I found out that mine were broken...

I have an appointment on saturday and im praying that I don't have any damage to the valvetrain and that they can just remove it. I highly doubt it though, because i used to smash pretty damn hard.

Just curious to see if anybody else hates lift bolts as much as me.

Re: lift bolts suck!

I've heard something about it being a bigger problem if the...rocker? shifted or turned or something. Otherwise, having them break is a common problem. They'll know how to get them out of there.

Re: lift bolts suck!

the new lift bolts after 2003 don't have the problems of breaking, so once you change them you should b fine.

Re: lift bolts suck!

ack, so i thought i was going to do the whole preemptive maintenance bit, and replace these before they became a problem, but alas, too late. my exhuast bolt was a bit worn, so i replaced it, my intake bolt is very much snapped in half, so now i guess i got a bit of work to do getting it out, i've got the TSB printed off, so i guess that's my project some time this weekend.., no way i'm taking it in and being slaughtered by labour costs

Sal the new lift bolts also wear, but not as much as the old types. Just a crappy design unfortunatley.

dimensionxzero if your bolt are still in place even thou snapped and the head hasn't fallen out and gone anywhere you stand a good chance of things being ok. Its only when the head goes in places jams and or the tip loosens and the shaft rotates then you have problems. They normally use a reverse drill or tap to extract them. Hope things work out for you.

Re: lift bolts suck!

alot of places will just basically do what the service bulletin says to do, which is basically takes your camshafts out, slide your rocker shafts out, and the bolt piece should just fall right out.. supposedly, i'll let ya know how that goes when i get around to doing mine sometime this weekend.
