Re: Suspension set-up

I use to have sportlines and I can tell you one thing, the kyb shocks will not hold up that kind of drop for very long. You need to pair the sportlines with Koni Yellows.

Re: Suspension set-up

^^ I agree with Chris. Koni Yellows are one of the best on the market. And if you're going to drop your car that much, I would spend the extra bit to get better quality shocks.

Re: Suspension set-up

I don't know. I disagree about the longevity of the KYB GR-2 shocks.

Yes they are OEM replacement, but No they will not die as quickly as stated. I have a set of ground control coilovers on GR-2's and I have been riding this setup for almost 2 1/2 years now without any issues. One thing I did do to help out heat exchange and wear is before I reloaded the front strut with the GR-2 shock I filled the shock housing on the strut with toyota red coolant.

They will die quickly. The drop wtih Sportlines is very agressive for the 7th gen. Even if you have to replace them in 2 1/2 years it's not worth it. Koni Yellows come with a lifetime warranty. Enough said.

Re: Suspension set-up

I believe my KYB's came with a lifetime warranty as well. I believe it is void if you lower between 2.5"-3" or lower. I don't have the paper in front of me, so don't quote me on it.

I will bet any money that they do not have that type of warranty. I know KYB offers a lifetime warranty but there is no way it is for 2.5 - 3" drops. Even Koni doesn't warranty against over a 2.5" drop. Anyway, the Koni's were meant for lower spring heights...you may be an exceptional person that hasn't had any problems, but even if you had 1 or 2 problems over the lifetime of the product that is quite expensive in labor costs to remove/reinstall each time. AGAIN, do it right the first time and get something that is properly matched, not just something that will hopefully hold up. I know people that claim that they have been riding on stock shocks with Sportlines and everything is fine...they are living in a dream world.

Re: Suspension set-up

Yeah this dude at school once said he was fine with something like 2.0~ H&R drop. i drove his car, his shocks were smoking dead. he loved it though. go figure. Drove on them for 6months too.

Have a bud with sportlines+koni, 50k+ on the combo with no issues or problems.

Re: Suspension set-up

honestly, get hotchkis trd suspension setup. My 02 GT-S has 61,000 miles on em and they are still amazing, perfect stiffness. with that setup and my body kit i am very low to the ground, which can make steep driveways and speed bumps a pain, but im sure you already knew that.

Have fun replacing the KYB's in a fairly short time. Waste of money IMO.

Could have gotten AGX instead of gr-2. way to listen to advice buddy....

gr-2's are just stock replacements, how much did you pay for them?

Re: Suspension set-up

Even the AGX's wouldn't have held up with Sportlines for very long.
