Help me on my 93 ST
Hey guys, I came to the fourms after looking for hours for good performance parts for my 1993 Celica ST. I do NOT want Accessories,Body Kits, or Interior Things. Please post any sites that you recommend for buying engine performance parts. My car stock is 103 HP, I just installed my Muffler (Magna Flow) adding about 10% gain HP so, now im at 110. Im looking to spend up to 500$, and I want to get my car to at least 150 HP+
Thanks guys |

Im sorry to break the news, but there is no way you will make 150 HP on a 5SFE engine with $500. I know people who have done full cold air intake, headers, and full exhaust, and have just barely broke the 100 HP mark on the dyno.
I also seriously doubt you made a 10% increase in power with just a magnaflow muffler, but im sure it helped a bit over the stock unit. If you think you're lucky, try a nitrous system. |

if i was in your shoes with $1000 to spend to reach 150 HP, i would do a light-duty 5SFTE turbo setup running @ 5psi. I'd be on a budget, meaning i'd probably source the parts for it from junkyards (www.car-part.com) and individuals on MR2 forums (www.mr2oc.com). This would include the 3SGTE manifold and turbo. I would get the stock oil pan fitted for the turbo oil return line, and use a 3SGTE MAP sensor, and injectors for fuel, controlled by a cheap SAFC unit which you could get for under $200 for sure... the rest of the money i would spend on a boost gauge and a decent intercooler setup and thats about it.

speaking as a guy that runs a 5SFE with alot of time and money spent on them i can say ratkos plan is your ONLY OPTION that will do it for less than 1000 with out a bottle but i woudl say after the fittings and everything else you should budget 1500
also unles your bearings are mint i woudl suggest building up the lower half while you are at it.....they will spin

Yeah he doesn't have a 5sfe thats only gt and gt-s in the 5th gens. For the 4afe u got your work cut out for u. There are a couple options though. First u can try and find an old mr2 4agze. Its a supercharged engine producting somewhere in the range of 160 hp. u can do a head swap, there are a couple of sites that can give u a walk thur talk thur. The other and better option for the future is the silver or black top 4age 20v. These are a little more expensive but well worth the effort. Ever heard of the AE101 well thats the silver top and the black top is the AE111. AE101 is about 160 hp, while AE111 is abou 165 hp. These engines will give u a good base and are well worth the money. U can get a AE101 for around $2000 from an importer. But if u look hard enough and do some junk yard work u can probably get one for 1500 or even less.
Cheers
