My 02 gts Over rev's but no outcome

Alright im somwhat of a noob when it comes to cars, but while i was drivving my 02 celica tonight i floored it in 4th gear and my RPM went from 4k - 7k in like a second but there was no power from it....... I was going about 80mph and from 4k-7k my speed was still 80mph. I stopped flooring after that because that one time i did it i could smell my engine like if it was overheating. I dont know how else to explain how my engine reacted, but for those who understood what i wrote i would greatly appreciate some help

i dont think thats it.. i just drove it again right now and whenver i floor it in any gear my rpm goes up by like 4k and my speed stays the same.

That is what happeneds when your clutch starts to slip.

Yeah its slipping...... just wait until it goes out... on the busiest street during rush hour... We dont want that to happen so look into getting a new clutch soon other wise that will happpen because it happend to me!
