Transmission problems?

Ok im new to celicas and this forum but i have a 2001 gt and today i was driving and the car seemed to lock up on me..the tires skidded and everything....it is extremely hard to get it into gear and once in gear, it just revs up w/o moving but sometimes it starts moving and then suddenly stops...does anyone have an idea wat this could be?

From your description, it dosen't make sense. I think its time for it to see the shop.

now that i took a closer look at it today...it will go into gear and it starts to go forward but like jerks back and forth

does the engine stall when it goes back and forth?
