Modifying the Engine
I just got an '02 gt-s and I was wondering how/where you guys learned how to modify the engine and stuff like that. Did you just experiment with it and do it through trial and error, take a class on car engines, or is there some manual where all this stuff is made easy?

Re: Modifying the Engine
LOL ummmm if you dont know any of that.... dont bother modding it...... do you know about cars? or do you just not know anything about celicas?
and to answer your question... i basically picked some of it up from some friends and being around cars and my dad and A LOT from the guys on here basic car modification is best if knowledge of cars is low like I/H/E (intake/headers/exhaust) and later when u know a lot more about cars and engine management systems go forced induction Last edited by lpugfan2004 : 12-13-2006 at 10:25 PM. |

Re: Modifying the Engine
before you tell him that he lacks knowledge, keep in mind your first days on this forum and the kind of questions you asked us.
there are actually alot of books on the subject but the best way to handle it is to start reading magazines and READ THEM, don't concentrate at the pictures as much as the words.... i'd say that %50 of my car skills come from sports compact car and 95% of that from the former editor dave coleman.... the man was a true preacher of horse power... there are larger books, including a haynes manual and others on import modding but there is no replacement for experience, go get an intake and install it your self, then try something simple like a stereo or a gauge install.. then keep looking into the next step.... when you think you've found the next step post here and we'll help you decide things, but our opinion should be more of a guide than instructions. the coolest part about import modding is that you can do things no one has done yet and if they work you get to be the unique guy for a while. for now keep posting here and in your spare time read all the articles on sportscompactcarweb.com... ONE WARNING! this shit is VERY VERY addictive... if i were you i'd bail now

Re: Modifying the Engine
You just gotta start from scratch..
if you have an old junked car you can learn a lot about how engines basically work and all the parts.. if you dont have a car you can just work on then head down to the library.. and just read everysingle book you can find.. See if there is any automechanic classes being offered.. Everyone learns from trial and error. If you want to learn about something.. find out what dosnt work first. narrow your options.. call your local toyota mechanic.... indroduce yourself.. im sure he will love to assist you in any questions you have... this site and newcelica.org are great networking sites. for your basic questions. just dont jump into something.. do a little research first. there is no such thing as a bad question.

Re: Modifying the Engine
If you learn how things work and why, the physics and chemistry behind it. You will have a better understanding of a vehicles limitations and it abilities. But overall the best way is to get your hands dirty.
