Re: removing the stock shift knob

Love the handle, you must get lots of invites to cottages. :-) A quick tip for you when putting most Shift knobs back on is to add either some plumbers teflon tape to the threads, or another solution mentioned is to simply wrap a small section of newpaper around the threads also. The idea here is to keep the new unit from rotating once you have it in place. Cheers

Re: removing the stock shift knob

that's terrible advice, if you want to put a loose knob on fill it with jb weld and let it dry for a week... then drill it and tap it out.... newspapers are for reading not for shifting

Re: removing the stock shift knob

I never had to do any of that when switching through 4 knobs on the 7th gen

Re: removing the stock shift knob

me neither... buy the right knob and you shouldn't have any problems... but when you have to johnson something rule of thumb is use jb weld before newspaper

Re: removing the stock shift knob

if you have a shift knob thats fits well with a 7th gen, tell me what it is. Also, would i have to get a new boot b/c i've seen some shift knobs w/ the boots not connected.

Re: removing the stock shift knob

I am sure JB is a great fix also. Newspaper and teflon tape work also and are zero dollars. The idea is to simply account for any slack there may be with SOME of the product out there. Glad to hear not too many have run into this problem. Either way, as usual there are always many ways to accomplish the same thing, your preferance. Cheers.
