Ricers!!!

Ok, I'm fairly new to driving / cars (being that i'm 16) and I'm pretty sure that a ricer is someone whos car looks... Exactly the same as on Fast and Furious, am I correct, and if so, WHY ARE THEY CALLED RICERS? What does that have anything to do with rice?

Re: Ricers!!!

Urban Dictionary: ricer

Quote:
(Ricer: from the latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt)

A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to):

- Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder
- Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747
- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself
- Bodykit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performace intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)
- Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therfore not always considered rice. It really depends on the severity of the case.

Basically if you slap a TRD sticker on the side of your ride, you'll gain 200 instahp and blow the doors off a saleen stang

Re: Ricers!!!

Wait... Did you say performance intake? So a CAI or SRI would be considered 'ricer'?

Re: Ricers!!!

technically yes...but it's more about presentation now, imo...

every 4 cylinder, sometimes 6 cylinder japenese car that has been modified will be considered a ricer by someone...most people have come to the realization that there is a difference between "ricers" and "tuners" Tuners being people who actually know what they are doing...and usually have cleaner looking cars. A ricer, is more someone who does it to try to be/look "cool" and pretends to know what they are talking about - without the will or wanting to learn of what is actually going on.

of course that's just my opinion

Re: Ricers!!!

i think i ricer is all show and now go. simple as that. they put all the money onto pointless exterior modifications such as a 20ft spoiler, and hardly touch the engine. they might have a CIA somewhere in the engine bay, but that'll most be the only thing they have. they'll also paint engine parts red or something to make it look better.

then what if a person that started out as a "ricer" later on complemented their "ricer appeal" with serious engine modifications, would they then be considered a non-ricer?

also in the wikipedia definition of a rice burner they listed a carbon fiber hood characteristic of a ricer bc it adds no real advantage to performance(like all the other common ricer mods)
and basically the only people that are allowed to legitimately have ricer-like modifications without being labeled as a ricer are professional race car drivers.everybody else with similar mods are ricers. and thus to avoid the "ricer" staple, your car must, more or less, adhere to the widely accepted "clean & simple" look. i think the term ricer is overrated and mostly bs used by the majority to have a good laugh at people considered inferior to them. but then again this post may as well be biased as i also am amongst those labeled as a rice burner. in which case my opinion may already be null

Re: Ricers!!!

RICE IN MODERATION IS AWESOME!

don't be a hater based on others hate, hate for your self.

in my bubble of a world a ricer is someone that puts tones of aimless mods on their car while not backing it up with anything substantial. if you turbo your car then put neons under it to me you arn't a ricer, but if you just put neons on a stock grand am or something that's really fucking ricey..... the key to avoid riceing out is to keep a balance that makes your car more than it was coming out of the factory.

suspention feel, driveability, power production, comfort, sound, fuel system and other mods that make the car it's self better than when you got it are money well spent in my mind regardless of what they are but when you strap $1000 in parts on the car and don't make a single horsepower and decrease ride quality and make things light up you are defiantly a ricer until you bring everything back to moderation.

alot of people would call elements of my car rice but my car is definatly balanced in modifications so if they do i can always say for everything i added that people might think is rice i've added a few things that aren't.

you asked can someone drop a rice title. yes but to do this you have to bring balance back to the car.

a carbon fiber hood doesn't mean rice and neither does any one specific part. it's all about balance...

see this is not a ricer

this is.... (hahaha couldn't resist)

Re: Ricers!!!

haha, good post, ic ur point. looks like i've got a little work to do then. the earlier post came partly out of me trying to let off some steam about being publicly(forum wise that is) ridiculed for my ride. personally i think it makes it all the more better when people will think my ride is rice until i show them whats it really made out of haha but im not quite there yet.

Re: Ricers!!!

The therm ricer is from the little rice boys (asians) who would dress up their cars; all show, no go.

These days, its very hard to avoid being a ricer to the eyes of someone. Basically, every mods on the car must have a acceptable performance function.

In other words, a park-bench-type-spoiler on the back of a 92 integra sporting a fart can, is, rice.

Re: Ricers!!!

I agree with the "All Show, No Go" to a certain extent. I am one of them who put body kit's, fenders, hoods, wheel, and such on a car to make it look good. But I have a fairly good reason why I haven't done much in the way of performance parts. You see, I'm working on being a Suffolk County Police Officer (Highest paid police department in the nation) and I am also a speed freak. I love going fast and I love taking corners at insane speeds (Borderline stupidity). So to the point, I am not putting performance MOD's on my car for the reason that if I do, I am bound to get speeding tickets and such therefore deminishing my chances of making $98,000 a year working 40 hours a week. So I guess you could say I'm a "Ricer" and I am due to knowing my self and my tendencies to drive fast.
One other thing, Have any of you ever seen a 2003 Mustang Modified to look like an import? There's one at Campbell with a body kit (To make it look lowered) and a god aweful wing on it. Would that be concidered a Domestic Ricer?

Re: Ricers!!!

that's bullshit, your argument states that a person with a fast car can't have self control... now that my car is fast i actually drive it slower 95% of the time

No, I'm just stating my opinion. My statement is talking about me and my self control. When I have a fast car, I have no self-control. Thats not ment as an overall statement. Just talkin about myself here.

Im in the same boat... but with motorcycles. The higher the CC the faster I get er goin. I do it for the adrenaline rush, so I know what ya mean. But at the same time, your an idiot. Whos going to hire a cop to start at $98,000. Either you have LOADS of experience or you've been completely mis-lead. I know Swat team officers that TRAIN swat teams that make a little more than that with 20-30 years of service under their belt. Anyways, good luck with that, I do hope you get in that way you can pull over those reckless drivers! :D
