HI - Performance Engine
Hi Everyone,
Before I Begin my post I would like to mention that I am new to Toyota and to the Celica nameplate, and I am happy to be a part of the Toyota team. I don't know if anyone has made a post about this before, but as an interested person I would like to make a post about building a high performance Celica Engine. I Recently purchased a 2004 Celica GTS and currently it's completely stock. (I would just like to mention as a side note that I own a few high performance vehicles such as a 1970 Buick GSX with a 455 C.I. engine, and a Ford Focus with A Cosworth 4 CYL. which produces over 400 HP.) I Know that the celica engine is capable of very high horsepower because it is a very strong block and can handle very high horsepower. My Plan is to build a high performance high horsepower motor utilizing my stock gts block. To achieve this, I am going to need High Performance pistons (race spec), lightweight crankshaft, cams, rods,....ect. all high performance parts to achieve this. Now since i am new to toyota I don't know of any aftermarket companies (japanese, european or american) which produces these high performance parts for the celica engine. However, my goal is to build a motor similar to the Toyota Hasselgren engine but it must at least be streetable. If anyone knows of any good aftermarket HYPO internals for the celica please let me know. Thanks, Leo |

Re: HI - Performance Engine
The Toyota Hasselgren engine is a 1.6L 4A-GE. You got a 1.8L 2ZZ-GE. It already running 11.5:1 compression. Most likely you'll need to custom made most of the stuff you want.

1.) Cams - Piper, although a new company is supposedly comming out "Kelford" 2.) Intake - Injen CAI 3.) Flywheel - Fidanza 4.) Sleeves - (If you decide to bore) Darton 5.) Pistons & valves - MWR (Not going to be cheap) 5.) Headers - stock ported 6.) exhaust - TRD That pretty much does it, whenever you are going to put aftermarket pistons, you're going to have to hone the engine. If you decide F/I, go turbo - you're not going to pass 200whp N/A (except maybe a ($4000 stroker kit from trial or MWR). To emphasize more - Superchargers - Greddy (cheap but known to have installation problems) and Blitz (known to have problems) Turbos - C2 and Hass - Both very good. Good luck with your build but I suggest trading it for a RSX-S which has alot more potential as well as aftermarket. |

I was told that if I install the supercharger I'll need a new hood but its the most reliable form of modification for the Celica. From what I understand this should bring me up to approximately 190 hp and more importantly increase my torque to 160 lbft. Do these numbers sound right ?

Re: HI - Performance Engine
I knew a dude with the trd supercharger on his celica, it was running stronger and better than a gts.
He has ran 60+k on the trd SC, with standard toyota maintnance With a turbo....i havent seen anyone make 1000km+ without any problems and constant trips to the shop. Annoying shit like, have to wait before shutting down the motor or else something might melt etc...It will land you alot of HP, but the maintnance part is horrible. city driving with the trd sc was just phenominal. MJB, your stock wheel power is 120hp~ trd sc will jump that to 150-160. Most importantly that 150-160hp will top in at 6000rpm rather than your stock 120hp at near redline. also there will be plenty torque right of the start. Either way turbo is alot better, but if you want to go that route, might as well get yourself a stock turbo car instead. Dont bother turbocharging the celica, had too many friends bust their balls with that. It takes 2-3 tries (blowing your motor) to get it right. Last edited by Sergio : 12-19-2006 at 07:41 PM. |

Re: HI - Performance Engine
I've gone about 4000km on my celica with a C2Power turbo kit. Just did the second oil change. Its only 6lbs of boost, 197hp 177tq but runs like a dream. Car has over 90,000km on it.....

Re: HI - Performance Engine
Check out Trial Of Japan they make some sweet, though expensive celica parts.
