Stalling?? no CEL
My GF's Celica (year 2000 with 117K ) has started stalling... (never when I've driven... but it has stumbled when I've drove).
The car is stock. (K&N air filter is all) It seems to stall on her shortly after startup.. and I've felt it stumble when pressing the gas (hesitating). Because of this, she brought the car asking for a tune up. All that was done so far is new plugs and cleaned the TB. last night we filled er up with 91 octane and threw in a bottle of valvoline fuel system cleaner. She just called me and said it stalled again. What do you think it may be? Oh ya... the CEL was on for most of the summer but has recently shut off... I've used a co-worker's OBD II scanning tool and got no codes at all. (he mentioned something about codes being erased after a number of times the car is turned on) (some minor things I woud like to do.... change fuel filter and o2 sensor... where are these located - can't find a haynes manual for this car at Crappy Tire)

OK...my gf owns a 2000 Celi with 51,500 and it does all the same stuff urs does...the fuel filter and o2 sensor will do nothing to the car...tried it...the code i get is a system too lean (bank 1) go into a machanic and ask to see the repair manuel...look up that code and see what it can be...i don't remember off the top of my head...but all i know is we have to take the car to the dealer so they can interchange the parts and only charge u for what is a permandent replace...but ur labor cost are going to through the roof odds are...and all warrenties are no voided...and i have read this might also be a computer problem
this is the best answer i have recieved from my father(my mechanic) and 2 other local mechanics...and no1 around here seems to have an answer...but a very persistant problem from what i have read |

Hey, check this out:
Stalling out at start same problem and an old battery was the culprit... now that I think of it... the car is 6 years old and I wouldn't doubt if the battery has never been replaced... I've looked for date manufactured stickers on it... found them, but it is not marked, therefore, no idea when the battery was made.

Dragon, you may want to closely inspect the Mass Air Flow sensor. Fwiw, I had mine changed primarily due to some of the very same symptoms. I noticed primarily hesitating on throttle. Also, the car seemed to bog and stall very easily compared to how I remembered it. MAF from Toyota is 200.00 CDN. It had been cleaned in the past, which restored the driveability of the car, but this time it required replacement. My Celi is a 2kGT with 138k on her. The symptoms started manifesting themselves right in your mileage range. Replacing the MAF has made the car new again, I couldn't believe the difference. Again, fwiw. Best of luck.

Thanks,
I have cleaned the sensor durring the summer, just doing regular trouble shooting things. The car generally runs good.. .. nice to know your car is about the same milage. We'll hope that's not the issue, cause $200 is a pain, ... though, we were thinking about a battery and that's lil over $100. cool.. thanks for the info guys. btw.. whats fwiw? lol... like hand wiping the forehead "fwew?" Ahhh.... (3rd edit).. my GF reading here with me... "For what its worth" ... and she don't know how she came up with that) Have a good weekend cruisers!

This is like the 5th thread I have seen on same subject probably should compile them into one thread so the information is all in one spot since they are all about 00 Celicas it seems and all the same subject of stalling or struggling throttle

Update - Stalled on me
Just went out to park it and it stalled on me for the first time.
It is damp out at the moment... I think that is part of the issue. What does it being damp out indicate? Thanks in advance
