Rattling Noise on accel
All. Several threads have been posted about a rattling noise coming from our cars, usually under accleration and most noticeable around 3k and up. It is more noticeable under a heavier load. Thoughts had focussed on the heat shield of the header. Just wanted to add that I also have had this noise, and the solution for me turned out to be under the car. Running along the bottom of the car to the rear suspension is a heat shield which sits above the cat and exhaust pipe. Very close to the cat is an (oxygen) sensor. The noise in my case occurred because this heat shield was very close to the sensor. Under load, the pipe vibrates, touching the shield causing the noise. Solution, simply bend it back. I think this problem may occur more with cars driven in the snow. It is conceivable that this may be how the shields bend closer to the point they begin to contact that sensor. You can't miss the sensor, it's the only one there. I was really surprise this actually fixed the noise, but it has. FWIW, ymmv. Cheers.
