Check engine light
alright, so i have an Injen cold air intake and i've had it for about 11k miles without any problems, but recently my cel has been going on and i keep getting p0171... which, if im correct, is system running lean. I cleaned the maf, and used fuel injector cleaner and cleared the code. it was fine for about 500 miles and then it came on again.
is there anything i can do to prevent it from coming back on? i think im going to change the fuel filter, but i couldn't find a part number, anybody have it? |

i get the exact same problems.....
my idea was that either the pipe is too big in diameter.. the MAF is made for a 2.5 inche pipe.. and mine is a bit bigger.. the other i heard was that my cold air was too long. making the engine push really hard to suck the air all the way up the pipe. i bought a short ram and im hoping that will help.. im in your boat man. were in this togethor lol.

duct tape, lol..
but on a serious note, i have the same problem, but mine is giving out a different code (I've got a 2004 gt-s and if i'm not mistaken, they didn't make a CAI for the 2004 and 2005 gt-s) I'm using the Injen RD CAI for 2002 GT-S

Not sure if this is the issue, but I have a K&N short ram that has been on for 1 1/2 years now. Has always worked well. No engine lights for sometime, but I have to say that the car has seemed sluggish the last few months. Bogging on startoff, and also hesitating on full throttle. Had the car checked and they replaced the MAF, 210.00 CDN for the replacement. Now, have to mention they also did the plugs as my car has just passed 136k. Folks, it now runs fantastic, like new. The Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) had been cleaned once prior, but the mechanic whom I trust mentioned they do have a finite life. fwiw.

well, i don't know whats going on, but the light came on today again... but this time something felt different in the engine.
it feels like lift isn't initiating, and almost not hitting at all. it does feel like it has a little less power before lift, but right at lift, it used to be like flicking a switch, but i can't hear it at all anymore. i didn't do anything that would make this happen, i just started it up one day and went for a drive, and the lift stopped working. now don't think i run completely in lift, i don't usually hit it, and when i do, usually its just for one gear. i did the wooden dowel to each cylinder trick, all sounded the same, and fine to me. the worst part is that im trying to sell my car... but with all this shit going on, i have no idea how thats gonna work. to my point. anybody know what could be wrong? its a 2000 gt-s with 61k miles on it. get rid of the CAI...CAI has been creating problems for cars ever since it came out. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it doesn't.
If you're trying to sell the car, just take the CAI out cause not very many people want to have a car with problems.

i`ve had the same problem. 2000 celica GTS; 101,000 miles. i took it to autozone and had the guy run a diagnostic several times over the course of a week. everytime it was the same code = fuel running lean, bank 1. i bought fuel injector cleaner and the problem still came up. at that time i had a no name cold air and it was happening a lot. i got an injen one recently. although the problem still comes up it doesn`t happen half as often. the last time i went to autozone the guy was telling me it could be something in the computer, air to fuel ratio. he said i`d probably have to take it to toyota to get the ecu`s air to fuel ratio readjusted. but who knows. hope you find out what it is.

so i found out what was causing the vvtli not to hit correctly. it was bad oil. lesson learned: never go to jiffy lube, even if its free. my friend gave me a free oil change cuz he worked there, but i guess they put additives in your engine when they put in your oil for some stupid reason, so my engine was tweaking off of that stuff.
