Temperature Gauge problems

The temperature gauge in my 1994 celica 2.0 gt is playing up. Sometimes the engine shows warm allowing me to thrash the car as normal then 1/2 an hour into the journey the gauge drops to cold which then makes the performance poor. The car is a Auto as well. I have changed the engine temperature sensor but this hasn´t worked.

Please Help

What you are describing, are the signals of a broken thermostat. Better replace it, they’re not so expensive. See for his place @ the photo.

I borrowed the official handbooks of a Toyota dealer, they also import a lot of JDM parts for me. They love de JDM Celica GT4, because it’s the only one in the Netherlands. So they’re very nice and help full and let me scan those books. Took me only 3 days!!:(

Mine was doing the same thing. It was the temperture sending unit. It is located on the engine block where the top radiator hose goes to. I took mine off, cleaned it off with a sponge, and plugged it back in. Worked every since!
