96 Celica Dashboard Brake Light on when Braking... Why...
Hi,
I have a 96 Celica with Automatic. My dashboard brake light goes on almost everytime I brake. I had my front pads and rear shoes looked at and they have 15K more miles on them. My emergency brake is fully disengaged and my brake fluid is to the full mark. Any thoughts on what triggers this indicator light to illuminate? Thanks TeddyZ |

do your brakes work fine?? or are they sloppy and you have to push the pedal almost to the floor??
I've read and re-read this post a couple of times, it could be air in one of the lines. I don't know for sure if that would cause the light to go on, but it's a possibility. If I remember I'll ask one of the mechanics at work tomorrow

Hi,
The Brakes work fine and stop the car as usual. Same with E-Brake. Pedal isn't spongy and it doesn't go to the floor. So no complaints at all with the braking. When you depress the brake pedal and the car slows the dashboard brake light illuminates. If you didn't have the light you wouldn't know there is a potential problem. That's the real issue. Is the light telling me that I have a problem or is it a loose connection or a sensor failure. Can anyone tell me the issues that illuminate that Brake lamp? One is the emergency brake (E-Brake). I cannot tell if the low brake fluid sensor does the same or if there are wear indicators that would light the lamp. Your thoughts? Thanks TeddyZ |

If you would have read he has ample fluid. It is more than likely a sloppy sensor. My suggestion is to replace the sensor and sending wire. But if you want an easy cheap fix to this take out your center console, and fix your sending wire in place so it doesn't move. But your problem could be ABS related, if your car is ABS equipped. If it is an ABS related problem, the most common thing is a loose wheel bearing on a drive wheel, so check your wheel bearings for play, and repack them.

You're right, it's probalby a bad sensor and or wire.
ABS is a whole different story. It won't lite the brake light. Nothing to do with it on these cars. Also, the wheel bearings are sealed on these cars.
