More power on the way.....
Next Tuesday is the start of some serious mods for the 4. Engine and box are being pulled out in readiness for the next step...
Bench flowed cylinder head with HKS 264 cams, adjustable cam wheels and uprated valve springs. Will also look at the inlet manifold when it's off to see if the flow can be imprioved. Block to have oilways cleaned up (rough castings as standard) to improve flow and will be reassembled with fully balanced crank, TRD shells, OE rods and ACL pistons (0.5 oversized). That will be coupled to a lightweight flywheel and uprated clutch. This will allow the rev limit to be increased to at least 8000rpm. Will also be fitting some GReddy 750cc top feed injectors too and a much bigger Koyo aluminium rad. Once this is all put together, boost will be turned back down and the engine will be given time to run in properly. Will also give me chance to sort out a decent intake system using an A'Pexi filter and custom made carbon fibre cold air box. Then, once I get back from Europe, I can look at a tubular exhaust manifold, BB turbo (probably a GT30) and an A'Pexi ECU. As for power, no idea what to expect until it's been on the dyno, but see no reason why an 11.xx sec 1/4 mile shouldn't be possible * *Gary |

Don't worry guys, this isn't a wind up by some spotty 13 year old school kid. ;)
I'm the wrong side of 40 Apexi make a fully programmable ECU which is specific to the ST205. Simply unplug the OE unit and plug in the Apexi one. Base maps included so drive to the dyno to get it set up. The stock injectors may well be able to cope with the power I end up with, but there is the risk that they'll be getting close to their maximum flow. I don't like running things close to their capacity - always have a built in safety margin IMHO - hence the bigger injectors. I'll keep you all updated with pics as it happens Gary |

Hummm think with the mods you have stated you will hit duty cycle on those jectors, I think you should be looking at 850's & bypass the resistor packs.
850's are good for 500Bhp IIRC. You got no mention of an uprated fuel pump... I think you are making a mistake going for OEM rods too, especially with that REV limit in mind. Still I hope all works out well for you :D :D |

I'm going down a known route with the GReddy injectors. Mate has done very similar on his MR2 and saw a dyno proven 450bhp without any issues.
Fuel pump may get swapped at a later date. Mapping + ECU won't be happening until next year. Rods will be shot peened to increase their strength. They'll cope with 8000rpm all day easily :D Gary |

OEM rods are known to have a weak point at 8500 & also prone to stress related warping, came across some figures on another website a few weeks ago:
RPM . . Force (Tonnes) on Rod 1000 - 0.08 4000 - 1.33 6000 - 2.98 7200 - 4.30 8000 - 5.30 8200 - 5.57 (These figures are for the stock OEM 3S-GTE rods.) 5.3 tonnes on a stock rod * In the UK a lot of people are going with the stock rods in their winter re-builds, so time will tell if this is a good route to take or not, I'm thinking on installing HKS rods (22mm gudgen) on mine but the TTE items are very tempting & could sway me * Your friend must have raised the pressure on the fuel lines, I suppose its one method or route to go down, check out this link for fuel pump info http://www.wolfkatz.com/DreamweaverD... 20Report.pdf & see what you think. How are you going to control the injectors if you are planning on doing the ECU at a later date?? Who did you get your Koyo off?? I’m having problems finding one for a decent price over here * |
