Hello, new here, looking for advice
Hey there. Was looking around for mods and stumbled into this place. I
recently purchased a 2.2L 1995 Celica GT-S and am looking to do some upgrades. Here's it stock right now: ![]() So far I'm looking at lowering it, adding some 16 or 17" wheels, and changing the exhaust. Next summer I also want to try and find a supercharger kit (which so far has been pretty tough). My main question is, is there a particular exhaust system that I should be looking at? I want to keep it street legal, and was looking at the TRD sports exhaust, but have been unable to find any info on numbers for the performance increase. Stock the car is 160hp, and im looking to get that up to ~200. What mods would you suggest could benefit the most? Thanks for any help, peace. |

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the 5sfe (2.2l) only make something like 145hp? Personally I would go with 17" wheels. I own a 1990 and I'm thinking about going to 18" so I'm sure you'll have no problems getting 17"s to fit. As far as getting it to 200hp and keeping it street legal and not turbo then you might be SOL. As far as superchargers I don't know of any for the celica but I haven't really done research for it.

From what I've read, the 2.2L has 160 at 3500 - 4000 RPM, its lower at lower RPM's. Thats good to know that the 17" will be no probs, you have any suggestions on a good exhaust? Also what are the advantages of putting in a high performance air filter? Thanks for the help. |

Air filter (and cold air intake) make it easier for the car to breath, the same as an exhaust does, so the go nicely together. THink of an engine as an air pump, the more are it can move the more power you can make but of course it is a little more complicated then that, but it's a start. And sorry dude but I'm not finding anything that says USDM Celica's ever came with an engine making that kind of power in a 6th gen. The 7th Gen GT-S makes 180hp from a 1.8l with vvit-l. But yeah I have no recommendations for an exhaust, I own a 5th Gen so I never look for 6th gen stuff.

6th gen has the newer 5S-FE which is 135HP and 140ftlb. 90-91 5th gen got 130HP and 140ftlb, 92-93 is 135HP 140ftlb.
For the 5S-FE to get 200HP, turbo will be easiest and cheapest. Of course a NA build with 12.0:1 piston, P&P, cam, balance and lightweight everything could get it to 200HP. |

i know i am right... but for the record i like that you looked to us then a mechanic first... very humble and respectable...
keep it up you'll fit in here fine... but keep in mind.. we are all here for fun before fact... so take it all with a grain of salt... btw.. i hope you don't hope to make more than 250 hp...the motor just can't do it.

my realistic goal with the car is to have it ~190-200, and really beef up the lowend pick-up on it. the 95 model is my favorite car ever (dont ask me why) and finding this in such great shape was awesome. im glad ive found a place to help start my hobby and im sure you'll be seeing me around these neck of the woods a bit more. thanks again. |

looks good
i say go 18's... even 17's look kinda small with the big wheel well.. my 18's fill the wheel well nicely.. but it depends what look you're going for.. and i WISH the 6th gen's had 160hp.. lol.. theyre slow... :P hatches also look really nice when you shave the spoiler off as well ;)

i would have to agree with lisa ^^^ on the 18's because 17's just looks too small on our cars but if you wana go fast then stick with smaller rims. you should just turbocharge it and it'll be awesome!
