7a-fe/5s-fe swap help??
ok... i recently bought a 95 toyota celica with the 7a-fe engine in it. The engine needs to be replaced and i wanted to put the 5s-fe 2.2 engine in it. if anyone has done this or knows anything about it I'd appreciate the help. I need to find out what things, in my car now, would have to converted for the 2.2 to be able to bolt up. i know that i'll need to get a new tranny, axles, radiator,....so if you know of anything else....

Well... i don't want to get a fast engine because i'm not into cars for speed. i was going to just replace the engine but i figured i have $3,000 to spend. the car i drive now has a 3.3 in it and the engine to be replaced in the celica is a 1.8. So i wanted a little bit more power.
I'm not doing the swap to have a race car...i just don't have the money to do it all....ya know...i've looked around and i can get the 5s-fe 2.2 plus the transmission for about $1,100. And anything that is going to need to be replaced within the next few years i'm just going to do during the swap....plus since i'm a girl i'd like to have the interior hooked up jus' a little bit...but i'll still gladly take any advice.. |

well my bf's dad has a peice of crap car that i learned how to drive stick on and i didn't like it and i dont know anyone that has a stick (that isn't a piece of crap) that i could drive to see if i would like it so i'm not going to make it a stick unless i know i'll like it. So... i wouldn't be getting a turbo...
...does the car have to be stick in order to have the turbo or supercharged?? and would it cost around the same amount cause i only have a certain amount of money?? |

Turbo and supercharger works great with automatic, don't need stick. All you need to turbo the car is a turbo and manifold. Some exhaust work and you can do 7 psi. To go higher you'll need intercooler, boost controller and other stuff. You can turbo it for $1100 or less.

Really....$1,100 for the engine with a turbo...not including the tranny?? or including it?? Well either way that's not bad.. *now would I buy the engine, turbo, and tranny separate or together ?? I've had problems finding 7a-fe engines that weren't in major accidents or that have loww enough milles on it. And I can do this with a 7a-fe?? *
* * I know the engine in my celica now (7a-fe) has a rod knock...I'm not sure if anything else is bad...I mean I'll replace most the old tubing, the oil pump, most of the gaskets and that kinda crap but if I were to put in a 7a-fe turbo will the parts already in my car fit since it's the same motor, and if not what things would I have to change?? * Also, I wasn't ever really into cars before now, so I don't have much of a clue of the price range for things... how much would you think (besides the engine, turbo, and tranny) all the other parts would total around...give or take a few hundred.. * *I feel bad asking you all these questions...I really appreciate all the help!! *My bf and his dad are into cars just not celicas...so they know most of the basics just not the exact details that I need to know before I decide what to do.. *especially with the liminted money I have. |
