awd conversion?

i bought a 96 celica about two weeks ago im looking into getting the 3sgte what would it take for me to do the awd conversion im having a hard time finding the information also if anyone already has it done is it worth the time and money to do it what problems have you had or know of people having with this

it IS NOT worth the time and it IS NOT worth the money... if you want an awd celica buy a GT4 or an alltrac

i would not have pay for an labor my boyfriend owns a shop im just to figure out what i would benefit from most i was lookin at alltrac earlier... did u do a conversion? do you know who sells the complete rear differential for the awd if you have done it or know anyone that has?

nope I haven't done one... but finding all the necessary parts is probably harder than finding a complete alltrac... so there is no point in doing a conversion

what is what? a conversion? lol that would be going from fwd to awd..mods will have to be made to the frame etc. your not going to find very many people that have done this because there is no sense in it.

A awd swap is possible. Is it practical or feaseable no.

First thing your gonna need the 3sgte 1500 to 2k

Then if your lucky you have to see if you have the drive houseing/tunnel if you don't your gonna have to make one. This means you have to cut out a section of the car and make one. And reinforce it (we have a unibody so this will weaken the chassy)

Once all that is done. Your gonna have to replace your gas tank. Due to the rear diffrential and possibly cut out the spare wheel well.

There's probably more but I doubt your boyfriend loves you that much. No offence

I agree with sub on the amount of work to be done not on how much your BF loves you. Trying to convert a normal celica to awd will cost way too much as compared to buying an alltrac or gt4. With the amount of money and time you'll spend you could have bought a new car and had no problems with better gas mileage too! just get an MR2 turbo rear clip and do a 3sgte fwd conversion.

Nope no prenup lol I don't have millions of dollars. And if she ever did try to take my car id sell both the golf and celi to my buddy for a buck lol. (Both cars are only in my name) lol. So even tho I consider the golf her car I legaly own 2 not to mention she doesn't even have a liscense yet.

same here... and sub even though the car titles are in only your name, since you are married you both still own them

there is a guy on alltrac.net that did the conversion in a 6th gen. apparently the only cutting is removing the spare tire area and putting the gas tank there.
I'm sure he is saying it was less work than it was but it has been done.

If I were you I would import a 6th gen GT4 from Canada then you have 2 options. Either illegally swap your vin and rock it Right hand drive. (i'm not suggesting this)
Or
import it. cut it up and turn yours into a full blown GT4

ive seen a v6 awd conversion in a 5th lol. looked pretty nasty. he also had to cut into the spare.
