Its official, I have horrible luck
So the other day, I get a flat, a nice little gashwhere i suspect happened at the junkyard parking lot while getting parts off the only wrecked 6th gen in my area (the only lucky thing that has happened recently)
![]() ...but yeah so i put on my donut tire and the next day...BAM!! a blowout..so thats 2 flats, 2 days. So i get it towed home (thank god for AAA) ![]() well today i got the tire replaced. So after taking my fiance to work i hear what sounds like a flat...with a brand new tire! Furiously i check it and nothing..than i noticed it only happens at low speeds and when i am turning. I ask a friend he says most likely my CV boot is broken, which made sense, as this one was on its last leg... but RAWR!!!! 3 days, 3 things.. and of all times to happen. I would love to buy a new one as i have a friend who is a mechanic, but I have absolutely no money as I am getting ready to move anytime now, so I have absolutely no extra money at all. now i have to go back to my s10. I travel 60 miles a day every day..going from 30-35 mpg to 15 if i ma lucky (its a 4 door s10) suuuuckkkks. plus my s10 drives like a boat compared to my celica..and its auto..ew. so anyone know of any cheap CV boots for a 94 st? |

Re: Its official, I have horrible luck
Cv boots are cheap but if the boot is broken the cv is prob shot. Good news tho cv's are reasonably cheap. They range anywhere from 60 to 120 bucks. It sucks that this happened and looking at your tire looks like you may have an alignment problem. But its harder to tell.

Re: Its official, I have horrible luck
That sucks about your ride dude. Where did you even buy tires at? I've looked from home to st louis and nobody carries the stock rubber for my 95 lol. I'm actually going to order new rims and tires from tirerack shortly because I can't find anyone that sells them.

Re: Its official, I have horrible luck
So is the CV boot and CV joints all together or do i have to buy both? my main problem is I have no money i can spend. The bank screwed me over nearly 300 dollars..and i bought my tire at a well reputated used tire place. but i have 17s on my car, they arent the stock rims. and with the whole alignment, i would believe it, the guy who i bought this car from did the minimum maintenance from what i can see.

Re: Its official, I have horrible luck
i can guarentee you its a wheel bareing, i just went trough all of thiss too.. your cv boot might be broken, but typicaly your going to get more of a clicking noise out of it.. do this..
Raise the front end of your car (assuming its the front) and try grabing the wheel at 12 and 6 oclock and try shaking the it.. if the wheel shakes, its a bad bearing.. and also look to see if the tire shop tightened your wheels all the way too! let me know what hapns........... EDIT: somthing like this........ YouTube - Bad Wheel Bearing on MKIV GTI Last edited by dane : 02-24-2010 at 03:50 PM. |

Re: Its official, I have horrible luck
Well it looks like things are turning up for me, I got a job I start tomorrow at $9 and hour or commission, whichever happens to be greater. About the bearing, is that a hopefully smaller easier cheaper fix? or a regrettably bigger harder more expensive fix?

Re: Its official, I have horrible luck
depends on the type of bearing as to how much you will spend.

Re: Its official, I have horrible luck
well there was no loose wheel so its definitely the cv axle. well i tried taking it apart to no dismay lol. it will have to wait until this weekend so my friend can fix it...but one question that will hopefully be answered tonight. I work in the morning til 2, and my fiance works at 1. the question is, my cv axle is almost gone, but it only does the clicking noise turning, and the flat tire noise at slow speeds. so do you think it could last one last maybe 20 miles? or will my wheel snap off or something? I ask cause if it cant make it, she has to take me to work and me hitch a ride from a friend lol

Re: Its official, I have horrible luck
it depends on which one, the passenger side is realitivly easy, just take off your tire, the brake assembly, the center nut(which is the hardest part) drop the hub, not sure about your Generation but there may be a bearing housing in the middle of the shaft that needs to be taken apart, my 5th gen has 2 bolts. then it just pulls out of the tranny no problem. the drives side is a whole other story, (i realize this is a older thread but maybe it might help someone else, if you did it alreday)
