help door speaker issue

having trouble replacing door speakers. I got 6.5" speakers like they call for but not sure how they are supposed to fit. due to the factory speaker seems much bigger. Need help or just a push in the right direction.

go with an 8" sub...Check my profile...Celicas were blessed with what most automakers are doing now. Take advantage and do something different. I'm sure this is or may become an underground trend for this car. I'll post pics as soon as I get all my parts together. You'll need to buy a decent cordless tool to buff the opening a little. I haven't done it yet, but I know it will be worth the effort. Don't forget the sound dampening material!!!!

If your dont want to go with 8" speakers then make 8" wooden spacers and mount those in before you mount the 6.5" speakers. Cut out 8" circles with 6.5" holes in them then screw it in the plastic mount. chop off the excess plastic on the back of the mount as your new magnet will be much larger then your old one (I used the same jig saw I used to cut the wood, took 5 seconds) before screwing in the speakers, put the plastic mounts back in place and test mount the new speakers to see if the magnet will clear the metal frame of the door. if its good screw it in. (paint the wood black before screwing it on the plastic mount as it will really stand out if you don't thru the grill.) Good Luck, this is a pretty old thread so Im not sure if you haven't already done this.

ebay. $20 will get you custom made adapters that wont rattle. I custom made my own out of plexi and these worked just as well for the same price.

funny in the convertible my stock front door speakers are 8 inch subs i think look way to big to be 6.5 inch.
