94 celica st coupe engine swap
I have a 94 celica st5 speed and I plan on swaping the engine. What engines can i fit in it? and how much horse will the engines give me? also, how much will it cost? I heard stuff about the MR2 engine but i'm more interested in the V6 camry engine. I assume the V6 is take less effort but i don't know how much it can push on the streets. If you guys can help, it'll be great.

If you get a alum blcok V6, it will not be heavy.
Lots of work to get it in, engine mount, tranny , ECU wiring, axles..... 3S-GTE is still the best swap. Even better is sell the car and buy an AllTrac. |

The 1MZFE V6 engine (aluminum block) is actually a few pounds lighter than the 3SGTE (iron block) with all the turbo hardware bolted on. So it won't be slow and heavy like people say. It's just people spreading misinformation. I'd say go for it. A few people have done the swap already. And stock for stock, the 1MZFE has a much flatter torque curve than the 3SGTE, which is good if your interested in daily driving or autocross for that matter.

Depends on what generation you get of either engine. 3rd generation 3SGTE's were only available in japan, and they make 240 BHP. Your common garden variety 3SGTE puts out around 200-210 BHP and torque. Depending on the year of the V6 and the car it came out of, you're looking at anywhere between 190-215 BHP, and usually a tad more torque.
The 3SGTE would be "easier" to install per se, only because you'll have an easier time with the engine mounts and finding drive axles. The V6 swap requires more fabrication which add to the difficulty. As far as the overall potential of both motors, I'd have to say the 3SGTE has more potential for big output. Not to mention cheaper and easier to achieve more power with it as opposed to the V6. The main thing to keep in mind with the V6, is the practically everything you do to it will be custom, that includes getting more power from the motor. |
