4AGE HEAD on my 7AFE
so my buddy has a head that he's gunna sell me from a 4age and it's fuckin BUILT!!!
how hard do you guys think the swap is gunna be? I'm thinkin I'm gunna pull the morot and tranny together cause he's got a newer one that he's gunn let me try out. while it's out I'll get all new gaskets and forged pistons. In man hours, how long do you think this job will take me?........ this is my only vehicle and I can't afford to be without a ride for too long what do you think? cheers ![]() |

Re: 4AGE HEAD on my 7AFE
have you ever rebuilt a motor before? Are you sending the block out to be rebuilt??? How much work have you done on cars? A straight replacement motor swap can be done in around 4.5h getting the first one out then 1-2 hours prep getting it ready to go in and say 5-?????? to get it back in.
It really depends on how much of the work you do yourself.

Re: 4AGE HEAD on my 7AFE
I though I could do a swap in 3 days. It end up become 3 months.
You'll need to use 4A-GE ECU also. That will add a lots of hours to your swap. Never ever do a swap on the only car you need. |

Re: 4AGE HEAD on my 7AFE
yeah
He's selling me the head because he found a 20 valve for his 4age. and he has an ECU for the head I'm buyin so that won't be a problem. he has a corolla and he said he'd help me if I gave him 200 for the head so I said i would. he's done a lot of work on that including a couple swaps and a turbo so he knows his shit well enough. Personally the most I've ever done is rebuild the throtle body on my 88 TBFI Silverado and I could drive that for a week or so while I did the work on my car I guess we'll see what happens thanks anything else you think I should know?... ![]() |

Re: 4AGE HEAD on my 7AFE
are there any more powerful motors that will bolt right in to my 96 ST besides the 7afe? I'm not sure how far I want to dig into my motor. I'd rather just buy one built
whada ya think? |

3sgte 5sfe 3sge all of which require different enging mounts/tranny/ecu/sensors. there are writeups on celicatech.com on some of these.
if you're looking to turbocharge, and make good power- look into the 3sgte. for n/a, look at the 5sfe/3sge

Re: 4AGE HEAD on my 7AFE
the 4AGE head will bolt on, but you will need a new timing belt. The 7A belt and the 4A belt will not fit. A Porsche 924/944 belt will work fine. You will need to do some wiring and also the 4A ECU.
You can swap in a 4A-GE silvertop 20V, or a blacktop 20V 6sp and keep the same motor mounts. Also a 4A-GZE (Z means supercharged for you newbs ) from a 1st Gen MR2, or the better way to go would be from an AE92 or AE101 Corolla. Basically and "A" series engines can bolt in relatively easy. Then we can get into "S" series engines such as 3S-GTE (Alltrac/GT-Four engine and MR2 engine). ST-185 and ST-205 would be the only Celicas you would want to take this from, since the ST-165 3S-GTE is less powerful than the latter. Any 2nd Gen MR2 can also be used, provided it is Turbocharged. If you have time and money (which since this is your only car I will assume you dont) you can go with a BEAMS 3S-GE VVT-i. ~200 crank HP and n/a. |
