Question Antenna + other questions...

Hi!

The power antenna of my 1993 Celica GTS had been busted from the day one I bought the car. (not new of course) The antenna only go up or down no more than 5 inches. (probably the motor) I always want to change it to an "auto car wash friendly" fix antenna . After I ran a search in this forum, I know that I can get a 7th gen celica antenna base and use it with a S2000/Element antenna or a 3rd party antenna kits for Canadian Tire. And here are my questions:

1) My GTS has the "intergrated spoiler" as you all know. Do i have to remove that small part of the spoiler when i remove the power antenna parts/install the new antenna parts? if yes, it is easy to remove that spoiler part and how?

2) can you give me estimate price on how much for those parts? (7th gen celica antenna base, S2000 antenna)

This is not antenna related

One of the hand (parking) brake wire is rusted through and broke. The other wire is also rust pretty seriously. Do you know any place (online or local - Toronto) can order those cheap?

Many thanks in advance.

Vehicle: 91 MR2 Turbo
2nd Vehicle: 96 Civic Hatch

7th gen base is around $45 CDN from the toyota dealer
S2000 antenna is around $35 CDN from the honda dealer

my MR2 has a 3-piece spoiler very similar to the 5th gen, and yes, i had to remove the side piece that was on the rear 1/4 panel. it was held in by two nuts on the inside of the trunk. easy.

the antenna base is 40 bucks (roughly) at toyota and the atennas go from like 15 for immitation to 35 new.

Steps to isntal

1.Remove the part of the spoiler on the drivers side by unscrewing the support screws that you will see when you open the trunk. You will have to pull it off after that.

2.Remove drivers side panelling in the trunk, be aware that there is a light harness you will need to remove. You will see a big circular whole, stick your hand in there and remove all wiring from the antenna motor . Remove the antenna base/motor.

3. Now sub in the 7th gen base, to do this you will have to widen the whole for your new housing to fit through...do it gradually, i just used a flat screwdriver. Hook the antenna connection to the new base and your done.!

i also need to replace my power antenna. my current power antenna will extend all the way, but when the retractable antenna reaches the max length, the antenna motor keeps running. but, when i power down the antenna, it retracts normally.

my questions is: is the motor assembly broken? or is there some sensor that is not working? can a possible fix be the replacement of the motor with another motor? i have a 1988 camry power antenna motor i can use. are these parts interchangable/ since its only the motor and not the mount i wish to change.

thanks in advance.

On most motorized telescopic antennas the motor has a little plastic stop that stops the motor when its fully extended/retracted, my guess is that the little stop broke off or became loose. But I can't say for certain that a 5th gen celi is set-up the same way.

i might goto canadian tire to pick up a cheap rubber antenna..but im not too sure if it will fit with the spoiler attached to the rear 1/4 panel...maybe i might do the 7th gen celica thing..but i dont really care about the s2000 antenna...i just want RADIO !!!! without any complications !!
