Hello, I've had my Toyota Celica GT for about one year now and I am finally wanting to get around to tinkering with it. It is, like I said, a 1992 Celica GT. I'm not sure which engine is in it, I never needed to know and I plan on going to check tomorrow (11:45 PM here). My dad is wanting to sell it because it has 190k miles on it and forsees problems. I am totally agianst it and am trying to see what I can do to stop him. It isn't mine so I can't do much but learn about the car and how to tune-it and fix it. I have always wanted to fix it up to be a real looker but haven't had the money. I would like to gather as many facts and stats on this year and make of car. PLEASE HELP ME SAVE MY CELICA!!

that's just over 300K km...as long as it's been taken care of, it should be fine. Of course, if it's startin to break down, I'd get rid of it and let it be someone elses problem. if it's still in good shape, drive her to the ground...I mean, do minor things, but there's not a whole lot of sense spending a bunch of cash on it. With that many km (or miles) on it, it almost wouldn't be worth selling it, becuz there is so much possibility of life in it...
it's sorta a gambling game, but I've never driven a car with any less than 150K miles, and they've all made it well over 200K, with little problems. And toyotas are well known for reliability for the most part, so I mean, shouldn't be too big of an issue. if I'm not mistaken, it should have the 5sfe engine in it. for a summary, of this rambling...don't sell it, quality built car, with that many miles, not worth it to sell it, drive 'er, take care of 'er and she'll take care of you

I thank you for your input. I found out that it was a 5S-FE engine only minutes earlier this post. Anyways, would you think buying a newer tuner engine and tranny could possibly take care of any mile problems?

new engine and tranny (see any thread about the 3sgte) will definitely take care of any mileage problems. of course when doing any motor/tranny swap there can be different problems.

Do you know the cubic inches of the 5S-Fe engine? And what are the specs of the 3sgte engine? I've heard a little about them but not much, and what price range are we talking for one?

As long as you dont beat on it too much and take care of it... theres no reason it won't last... my stock 5sfe has 457xxx kilometres on it and still starts and runs like new... burns very little oil... but its nothing major...

The only problem is I would like to turn it into a moderate tuner car... EDIT: Which means I will be running it pretty hard every now and again XD

I have a good friend...her name is google.com for your tech questions (but someone may post up some info if they have any)
as I said before, take care of 'er and she'll take care of you. Beatin on it once in a while, or even often may take it's toll, but, if u keep the oil changed and regular maintenance done, you should be pretty good to go

OK, I was told that the 5S-FE was a 1.8L, but mine is a 2.2L. Was the guy wrong or is mine special?

Does anyone know where and how much I could get my hands on a turbo rebuilt 3S-GTE engine?

Again, anyone know a shop or site that sells rebuilt 3S-GTE engines, and or manual transmissions for a 92 Celica?

You shouldn't need your trans rebuilt.
The 92 ^ are good, reliable trans. As for finding a rebult 3SGTE. DON'T. Most rebuilds aren't as good as the original factory work. There are exceptions, but they are few, and expensive. Your best bet is to find a used one. Probably a JDM, as the US speck 3SGTE is VERY rare. AS in less than 6000 originals. That includes all the ones that have been blown, and all that are still in the vehicles [like mine. :D], and all the spares people have floating around. Take your time and search carefully.
