Celica 1991

Hi
Im new to this site - hope I get it right.
I am the proud owner of a beautiful white 1991 Celica. I have had it about two months and love it to bits!
Last week it was pouring with rain as it does here in the UK (!) and suddenly the car just stopped at a very busy roundabout. Tried to restart it again and again and apart from beginning to flood, it wouldnt budge. Evenutually someone helped me push it over to the side of the road. After about ten minutes, it started and was absolutely fine and has been fine ever since in that it hasnt happened again.
At a recent service, the mechanic said that the Celica was well sealed against water but that under the car there was a vent and it had got wet. He said that Id always need to be careful when driving in pubbles. Is this usual? Can anyone help me please on this?
Also, it seems as though it loses power sometimes. When you put your foot on the accelerator, it doesnt immediately speed up but takes a few moments to do so. I wonder whether there is anything that needs looking at? Is this usual?
Many thanks
Michelle

I wonder also, having bought the car with little service history, how do I find out where the immobiliser is and whether there is an alarm on the car?
Thanks
Michelle
