Re: strip paint not powder!

Don't know which is best or whatever, but I thought of several ideas. It depends on if the powdercoat was done correctly, and what kind of spray paint.

A clay bar may be an easy way out.

Could try wet sanding with a finer grit sandpaper just until you saw gold; it may look dull but you could probably buff it out.

Other ideas are using chemicals like lacquer thinner, brake cleaner, or alcohol. Some will be less abrasive than others, but probably loosen it up enough for you to scrub or wipe off. However, wash it right after, so it doesn't stay on the powdercoat.

Re: strip paint not powder!

Depends on the shop, average range is probably $200-300 for all 4 wheels. I personally would start wet sanding with a grit like 1200 in a spot on the wheel to see how soft and thick the spray paint is. Chances are someone that spray painted over powdercoat wasn't smart enough to sand, so it will most likely be fairly easy. Start with the higher grit, and go down just until it's coarse enough for you to see some gold, then when it's all gold, you can work back up in grit to get it smooth. If it ends up looking dull, like I said you can most likely just use some compound, wax, or something of the sort. Just remember to take your time and keep it wet while sanding.

Paint thinner? I'm not sure, I think either way, you have to remove the two layers off and then repaint them.

Re: strip paint not powder!

Depends on what type of paint was used to paint over the powder coat. If its a water based aerosol you might try something like "Goof-Off" from Canadian Tire or another place like that. Most likely though you're going to be going to the shop and having them re powder coated.
