clutches for my 5sgte
ok ive been looking at clutches lately. im kinda between these
STREET Series Clutch Kit - Stage 2 by compitition clutch. Carbon Kevlar $315.00 This assembly provides approximately 80% increase in torque capacity and is properly suited for aggressive street use and moderate track use - The Carbon Kevlar material with its alloy backing matched to a performance pressure plate will provide smooth engagement and extended life - 500 mile break-in highly recommended with this set-up - 300 mile break-in REQUIRED with this set-up - The 2100 Series kit includes a performance pressure plate, a high torque sprung disc with antiburst steel backed Carbon Kevlar facings, all applicable bearings, and the appropriate alignment tool STREET/STRIP Series Clutch Kit - Stage 4 by compitition clutch. 6 Pad Ceramic $355.50 This assembly, available with a double spring, six rivet carriage is good for ease of gear transition with higher horsepower - This disc complimented by a performance pressure plate provides 250% increase in torque capacity - 300 mile break-in recommended with this set-up - The 1620 Series kit includes a performance pressure plate, a six puck high torque sprung disc with Ceramic buttons, all applicable bearings, and the appropriate alignment tool STRIP Series Clutch Kit - Stage 5 by compitition clutch. 4 Pad Ceramic $355.50 This assembly, available with a double spring, six rivet carriage is good for ease of gear transition with higher horsepower - This disc complimented by a performance pressure plate provides 300% increase in torque capacity - 300 mile break-in recommended with this set-up - The 1420 Series kit includes a performance pressure plate, a four puck high torque sprung disc Ceramic buttons, all applicable bearings, and the appropriate alignment tool im leaning towards the stage 4 more than the 2 and 5. i belive the two will be too weak and 5 will be annoying for street use. what do you guys think?

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
i'll agree with you, since i'm running a stage 2 in stock trim. with that amount I dont think it would be able to retain the proper amount of clamping force unless you went with a higher rated pressure plate. the stage 5 sounds more like a drag spec type clutch in terms of clamping force. so yeah, the stage 4 sounds about right, a nice balance of the both.

need to do:
mount hood diffusers, re-do axle back "keep racing on the track and off the roads" 0-60: top of 2nd gear |

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
mainly because they are the more common choice in high hp engines due to their streetability and clamping force.

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
Don't get the 2 which likes equivalent to a street strip and in my experience will burn it out quickly. Thats for people that are pushing 200 whp hondas haha which is weak sauce.
4 puck is going to engage like an on and of switch. Get at least a 6 puck. I got the 6 puck because I ran it in the past and it lasts. Driving it isn't that bad. Theres a little feathering with the 6 puck.

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
id go with a stage 2 un sprung, iv seen a few but i heard there kinda hard to find? but it gives you that extra umpf when its needed since its unsprung, but also since its no a pucked clutch it still has that stock feel ya know?

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
Stock feel means nothing when your installing a new clutch in 3 months. Go with at least 6 puck and be sure to break it in.

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
Personally I'd spend the money on a stage 3. You've spared no expense anywhere else why cheap out on a clutch. Stage 2 probably wont be enough stage 5 is serious overkill and with a stage 4 your still using a 6 puck design. either on or off. If you plan on mostly driving it on the street I don't think its the right clutch.

I am definitely going to have to agree with locker... why cut corners on the clutch when you haven't anywhere else?

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
I drove my 6 puck on a daily driver for 2 years. Its doable. Just need to give cars in front of you some length before you launch

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
im not really short changeing it when it comes to a stage 4 vs 3 i honestly wasnt thinking of the stage 2 i just put it up there lol.
STREET/STRIP Series Clutch Kit - Stage 3 Segmented Kevlar 445.50 EA This segmented Kevlar material with a performance pressure plate will provide the ultimate in street and strip combinations - This assembly is suited for 150% increase in torque capacity - Provides quick but smooth engagement and extended life - 500 mile break-in REQUIRED with this set-up - The 2300 Series kit includes a performance pressure plate, a high torque sprung disc with segmented Kevlar facings, all applicable bearings, and the appropriate alignment tool then theres the ironman lol STREET/STRIP Series Clutch Kit - Ironman 6 Pad Iron $445.50 EA This assembly features our advanced hybrid iron and carbon friction material riveted to our high torque disc assembly in a six puck style - The IronMan provides outstanding stability, smooth engagement, and less wear on opposing surfaces - Offers 175% increase in torque capacity - 300 mile break-in recommended with this set-up - The 1680 Series kit includes a performance pressure plate, a six puck high torque sprung disc with Iron/Carbon buttons, all applicable bearings, and the appropriate alignment tool still got some research and thinking to do. heh but im torn between 3 and 4 now

This one would be the one I would pick.. It still uses a 6 puck, its sprung, but i think an unsprung clutch would be harsh on the street, and i like the sound of the 250% torque increase :D you would be chirp'n from 3rd to 4th on the freeway hahaha.. ether way, what ever you get, Break her in befor you beat her up! I wish i didnt fuck up my stage 2 from not breaking her in.. :/ |

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
HELL YEAH SUB! and they are cheap... i can hook u up with oem parts too! ha ha ha... so guys what do u think the best weak link would be for a typical street\track car like we all are talking? im thinking the clutch would probly be the wise decision right? trans costs alot, axles would suck if they went.... im thinkin clutch....

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
There is a lot of information on the clutches but no information on how to make your decision.
You need to list your goals, how much torque your expecting to make. Also what gearbox your using is important. Keep in mind that stage "xx" means nothing realistically. Update the thread with your tranny choice, and torque expectation. |

Re: clutches for my 5sgte
Transmissions have always been my downfall. I plan on useing my 5sfe tranny. Ill have to look up the exact tranny code. But as for power I'm hopeing 250-300 torque and 400 hp.
