5S-FE Camshafts

I was wondering if camshafts designed for a 3S-GE will fit/work in a 5S-FE head. HKS makes/has made? camshafts for the 3S-GE and thought those might do the trick to help the air-starved 5S breathe a little better.

Secondly, if that doesn't work out, I sat webcams makes camshafts for the 5S. How much of an improvement can I expect from changing out the cams and putting something a little more "aggressive" in?

Re: 5S-FE Camshafts

Nop. Totally different head and cams.

There are a few cams in MR2s. Don't remember what's the gain was but most said its worth it.

Re: 5S-FE Camshafts

Ok, there's a buttload of MR2's in the car graveyard down the street from me. What about webcams, they any good? I hear they make cams for the 5S-FE

If not I can always do the head swap.

Re: 5S-FE Camshafts

ah, ok. I'll do a bit of research. I was looking at a GReddy turbo setup - the one they have for MR2s. In THEORY most of the stuff should be interchangable. I've always been a fan of GReddy. Great stuff, that is. I'll check out some cams though and see what I can find.

Re: 5S-FE Camshafts

It'll be better to swap in the 3S-GTE first if you want turbo.

Re: 5S-FE Camshafts

I'm seeing that now. That way, if I want cams, I can use HKS's. If I get the swap, in theory the GReddy kit will bolt right up, except the downpipe. If I get an eManage blue, a decent FMIC, and a few other odds and ends, that should put some serious power down. Yey, Ney? Any opinions?

Re: 5S-FE Camshafts

that's a good way of putting it. However, when people want to turbo 5S-FE's they use eManages so using one on an engine *actually* designed for a turbo I think will yield some good results. The GReddy turbo kit for the 3S-GTE uses a T67-25G. That seems pretty big to me, but I'll trust them. But, yes. I think I'll go ahead and order myself an engine in the near future. Actually, I think there's a crashed MR2 Turbo in the JY near my house. Well, at least it *was* a turbo - someone tore the turbo off that a LONG time ago. If I get the engine on a wednesday it'll be like - $62. It really doesn't matter if it has the turbo or the manifold if I get the kit. I will need an alltrac computer I think though, as well as some other odds and ends.

Other options include ordering either a swap ($1100 - $1300) or a front clip (I've seen about $3000) It at first seemed like a lot, but it's beginning to seem more and more worth it.

I want to go with GReddy aftermarket parts when I can for two reasons.
1.) they're good as hell
2.) they (Trust) filed Chapter 11 a little while ago so they need customers or they're going to go under. I personally blame cheap eBay turbo kits.

Re: 5S-FE Camshafts

Take everything from the MR2. Tranny, ECU, wiring harness and engine. If you're lucky, the tranny will have LSD.

Re: 5S-FE Camshafts

ah, yes I've heard about that. However, I think there's this adapter thingy I'll need to convert the MR tranny to work with the FF linkage. I believe everything else is the same.

Re: 5S-FE Camshafts

Take shift link bracket away from MR2 tranny. Take shift link bracket from your own tranny and put in on MR2 tranny. Done.
Oh, don't know if you'll need the MR2 drive shafts, so take them also.
