St185rc vs ST205 intercooler

Hi. I have a 91 turbo and wondering which of these two are better (sorry i know its not a celica but the celica world probably know more of these two intercooler than the mr2 world). I know the st205 is bigger and flow bigger from other I have research. We where going to go with a RMR manifold but the inlet piece never came. Somehow the st185rc have an inlet piece and I need the car done to get tune. I wish I could go with the st205 tho. Whats your input on this st185rc? I am thinking down the line I will upgrade to a st205 intercooler but why waste another 400/500 on a st205 core. I am going with the st185rc HE and pump. Any input is appreciate. MODS.

Gen2
cp pistons
speed source fuel rail
1200cc
supra pump
eagle rods
SB t3/t4 50trim
RMR manifold
R1 exhuast
MSD w/ 2step and plugs
Coolingmist intercooler
AEM ems

Thanks.

Re: St185rc vs ST205 intercooler

are you talking about the stock intercoolers for the RC and the 205? from what I've read the RC is the air/water cooled one, im not sure about the 205? I think its the same? what are you running now?

Re: St185rc vs ST205 intercooler

I am running a Berk side mount. I know the st185 had a2a and a2w. I thought all st205 on celica came a2w standard??? st205 is all black with a toyota logo on the middle.

Re: St185rc vs ST205 intercooler

But whats your input on the st185rc? Good enough to not worry about? Looking for 400whp with 91 pump, if not with meth and also a race tune. Hoping for 475whp with race gas. Just want the a2w setup to be good althought I don't boost much but always nice to know that I will be ok when i want to boost. Side mount a2a on a mr2 can get pretty hot. What would you think. St185 is good enough don't worry about it even tho the st205 core is a little bigger and flow a little better? I am thinking at that power level it shouldn't matter too much. Will always beat the side mount intercooler any day.

Re: St185rc vs ST205 intercooler

The ST205 would be better, but since you already have a ST185RC then your fine. No need into wasting another 400-500 for a slight increase from the ST205. Are you running 1200cc injectors?

Re: St185rc vs ST205 intercooler

Anyone know how much a st185rc can handle for a beating (worst case)?

Re: St185rc vs ST205 intercooler

It all depends on the supporting mod and your setup, but ive seen alltracs with 320+ HP running it no problem. Again it depends on your setup.

Re: St185rc vs ST205 intercooler

I'm aready making 325whp on a small side mount. I just wanna grow as big as my turbo can handle. Thinking about if st185rc intercooler will be sufficient for 450whp tops with a relief knowing your intercooler is ok.

Re: St185rc vs ST205 intercooler

Either way the ST185 RC WTA intercooler will be better then your stock AIA intercooler or a mild upgraded AIA intercooler. The real upgrade comes from the charge cooler itself. Get yourself the ST205 or larger charge cooler and it should be able to handle it I'm guessing. I'm just going with the idea that the Celica GT-Four 320+ whp has a greater flywheel HP then the MR2 Turbo with 320+ whp due to the celica 4WD giving it a lower whp. On the MR2 the charger cooler again is going to be setting where your AIA is.

Re: St185rc vs ST205 intercooler

Thanks for the info. I think this would be fine. Even a smic can make 400whp. Maybe not effcient but an a2w should run it good/great all day long. :) I just worry too much.
