clutch alignment tool

ok well I got a 5sfe engine and I am putting the clutch components back in, but I need to align the clutch. I bought one of those universal alignment tools, but it doesn't have the right adapter to fit into the crank. I called a toyota dealer and they said the part takes like 2 weeks to get, SOO is there anywhere that I can get the actual alignment tool for my engine it is a 91 celica gt-5sfe. any ideas cause I want this done asap.

Re: clutch alignment tool

I'm going to assume a few things, one that you have had your Flywheel resurfaced or bought a new one, and you have bolted it back up. And that you have a haynes manual.
The next thing you would do is place the clutch disk up against it, and then put the pressure plate up over the flywheel.
You can start bolting the pressure plate to the flywheel with the clutch disk inbetween the two
****do not tighten them all the way****
You just want to tighten them enough so that the clutch disk isn't sliding around.
Get a screw driver(or something slightly thicker) and insert it backwards, with the handle being used to align the clutch disk with the pressure plate. You should be able to look around the edge of the pressure plate and see if it is centered.
No need to for any other tool
When it is centered you can then tighten the pressure plate, and put your tranny back on.

Re: clutch alignment tool

I worked for a mechanic briefly and he showed me a trick. Just take a 3/8 ratchet extension (6" should do) and wrap electrical tape around the end until it fits snug into the back of the motor. Then do the same thing where it passes through the clutch disc. I found that to work better than any of the plastic ones.
