s53 gear oil replacment DIY

OK FIRST LET ME SAY THAT NEITHER ME OR CELISPEED.COM IS IN ANY WAY RESPONSABLE FOR DAMAGES OR MALFUNCTIONS TO YOU THE READER OR YOUR CELICA WHEN PERFORMING A MMANUAL TRANSAXLE LUBE CHECK AND OR DRAIN/FILL. THANK YOU AND I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK.

Ok first this type of preventative maintenance should be dont every 15,000 Mi or 12 months.
The type of gear oil to use a basic 80w-90 conventional. do not use synthetic lots of bad things will happen lol.
ok first you need to find the fill/check plug which is located at the front(the differential) loosen it and stick your finger in the hole and the fluid level should be up to the lower edge of the check hole. once you do that take a sample of the fluid and put it on a white pice of paper and check the color of it. if its a light brown color its ok but if its barker then that its time to change it.
now at the bottom of the differential there is a drain plug make sure you leave the check/fill plug off so that all the fluid drains. once youve remover the drain plug and the fluid comes out as a slow drip reinsert the drain plug and finger tighten in then with a socket or box wrench give it 3/4 of a turn. now i do not know the exact amout of fluid is needed but when you go to fill it through the check/fill hole make sure you stop every once in awhile to recheck the level once it is at the fill point((lower edge of the check/fill hole using a suitable syringe or gear oil pump till it is full also it is easier to fill it till some starts to spill out. only put the check/fill plug back in untill all excess gear oil had dripped out of the fill hole then tight the check/fill plug hand tight then go 3/4 of a turn to tighten. last but not least start the car and shift through all gears to make sure they get lubed then recheck for leaks and proper fluid level and add if needed. this concludes the check and replacement of the grear oil in the s53 manual transmission. thank you for reading this it will save you lots of $$$ by not needing to get a new/used trans or taking it to a shop.

Re: s53 gear oil replacment DIY

it takes about 3 quarts of lube, the wrench size is a 24mm plug. i recamend using a box end wrench. or a shallow socket. the guys at autozone said it needed a 75w90 lube.. but great write up
