3sge 1st/2nd/3rd gen compatability
I am putting a new engine in my 87 GT-S (st-162) I found a 3sge but it is a different generation. (Either 2nd or 3rd, I'm not sure)
this is what it looks like: ![]() I know that I would definitely need to use my intake manifold, throttle body and such, but would this block bolt on without modification? Will the headers fit incase the ones on this engine do not bolt on to my existing piping? is the dizzy in the same place so that will will work with my valve cover and wires? And is there anything else I should know before attempting to put this in my car? thanks! |

^Engine gen don't go with car gen. I think 3S-GE only got to 4th gen and its the Red BEAMS.
This one looks like a 3rd gen without TVIS but has ACIS or something. You'll need the ECU to get all the power out of it. With an older 3S-GE ECU, you'll lose power on top end. |

It is a 3rd gen like pineapple said. The 2nd gen and 3rd gen look basically identical, this engine has a flatter fuel rail cover which is typical of the 3rd gen.

Fuel rail cover? How can you see the fuel rail cover while the rail is at the back of the engine and under the intake?
At the front where the Toyota label is,, is the intake manifold with throttle body. The runner goes to the back where the ACIS chamber is. It then run down to the intake ports of the head. |

I dont know where I got 'flatter fuel rail cover' (must have been thinking about something else when I wrote it). I meant to write oil dipstick and oil neck locations
