Has anyone turbo'd an 89 3SGE?

Hey, I have an 89 celica GTS, im rebuilding the engine this summer, and i am thinking of Turbo-ing it . I know this engine is basically the same as the 3STGE engine. I was wondering if anyone has Turbo'd their 3Sge, and if you could share some info if you have. Im looking for info on

Whats the best turbo t use? (CT26?)
what other parts will I need?
Approximate cost?

Thanks for your time

Chris

3SGE is 2.0L, its the same basic block but the 3SGTE has a lot of hardcore mods. Lower compression, piston coolers, etc. I wouldn't say its easier to swap the motor, but if you're looking for more than 200whp or 0.5BAR then it would be much more reliable and probably cheaper in the long run. To turbo the 3SGE you'd want to get some parts off the 3SGTE, those being, MAP sensor, turbo, downpipe, manifold, injectors (or 7MGE injectors), 7MGE fuel pump, 3SGTE oil pan and lines. I know the 5SFE ECU is able handle some boost with the 2BAR MAP sensor from the 3SGTE, not sure how the 3SGE ECU would like it.

I recommend getting a ct20b from a 3rd gen 3sgte or a ct27 (ct26 upgrade) from atsracing.com. if you're looking for a moderate performance jump. the ct26 is not a bad turbo, it just runs out of breath at 5500 rpm, and is not nearly as efficient.

Do yourself a favour, price all the parts and labour before you decide to go ahead, then price a jdm 3sgte and factor in the reliability and performance. You'll likely decide to swap out the whole motor :)
