Where did my oil go???

I have an 86' Celica GT-S. On Tuesday I noticed that my oil pressure was a little low, but nothing to worry about. On Wednesday a little lower. On Thursday I forgot about it and started to drive the vehicle when I noticed the oil pressure. I live in a remote area and it was 1:00 o'clock in the morning, so I decided to drive to the next town in check the oil. This was a very bad idea. I did not make it to the next town. The vehicle started to make some noise and then it got louder and would shut off. I could re-start the vehicle but it had no power. I think I blew a rod or something the noise is from the bottom. So the question is, WHERE DID MY OIL GO? It was not leaking!

I am looking at getting another 3s-ge engine. Should I get another imported engine for $500 or buy a fully rebuilt for $850? I think it would be cheaper this way.

how do you know there was no leak? did you check everywhere? Like did you go under the car and look on the back of the engine? I had a leak I didnt know about then when I finally found it it was from the distributer and the leak was dripping behind the engine (not visible from the front).

how often did you check your oil? and how many k on the engine. If it was old and you never checked the oil for a while you could have posibly been burning alot of oil.

About five weeks.....

since I checked the oil. I had put one of those import engines about three years ago, but the vechicle sat for a year without been started or driven. Maybe that had something to do with the problem.

So, should I get another import or should I get a rebuilt engine. I was thinking of maybe rebuilding the same engine, but I think that it will cost me more than replacing.

Also, I have read about second and third generation 3S-GE engines, I am going to assume that I have a first generation engine. Can some one tell me how much better they are and how do I tell them a part.

Thanks
Javier
