Engine dead, opinions on a new one?

Engine died on my 89 about 2 years ago and kept putting off fixing it... since then i'm now going to and have already made an appointment to get it fixed next month. BUT! here's my catch... I already own a 2002 celica and I want my 89 fixed so I can drive that while I work on my 02.

Here's the reason for the post...

Should I drop in the 3SGTE engine?
If I do what all will I need besides the engine? ECU & wiring harness?

Also, the current specs on the car are as follows:
Engine Family: KTY2.0V5FFFX
Intake: T-VIS
MFG DATE : 05-89
Model: ST162L-BLMVFA

You'll have to excuse the vagueness on some of the information as I had to have someone else get the information for me. As best I know it's a GT-S, but the previous owner thought it might of been an accident at a paintshop that may of painted the S on the GT part or some mix-up with that. Thanks for any help you provide.

if your just using the car as a beater dont bother with the 3sgte. Its a great engine with lots of power and potiental but comes with its share of problems and expenses. If your just driving around town. get your engine rebuilt and just maintain it and it should last you forever.

On the other hand if you want to make it a fast sleeper then get the 3sgte. For that i would recomend a second gen. You need the engine, ecu, harness, the rest you could mod to work. You should try and get the transmission aswell its bulletproof.

if u cant rebuild i got a 2SE engine from an 86 that just needs a valve cover gasket cuz it leaks a little. Any part u need i got it, car still runs great but i dont want it
