4th gen turbo

I'm looking into a turbo for my 88 gt. it's a 3s-fe engine, I know I can't do much to it, but getting a turbo will be cheaper than an engine swap, but is it going to be safer?

I don't know what the engine can handle.

ahh go for a engine swap better casue the money that ur gonna use to strengthen the motor and get a good turbo it might be cheaper to just get a st165 motor..

ST165 eh....hmmmm I'll look into it.

but swaps are costly, and take a lot more work than a turbo install. (again speaking from what I'm familiar with)

Thing is you won't get as much HP as a 3S-GTE when turbo the 3S-FE. Maybe better just to throw in the 2.2L 5S-FE.
I guess the 3S-FE will be ok under 10PSI. Thing is at that pressure, you'll need fuel managment and other tuning to run stable. Don't know how much HP you'll get with 7PSI. May not worth the trouble.
Easiest way to turbo the 3S-FE is get 3S-GTE manifold and turbo. It'll just bolt-on.

thanks for the help, yeah I don't wanna stick anything on there without making sure I won't blow the shit out of something or have it be the case where very little performance is increased.

I guess I just need to save my pennies and just keep checking prices.

Only advantage with turbo the 3S-FE is that you don't need another ECU and wiring harness but you'll need to find a way to adjust fuel or even ignition timing.

60k, it's a project car, I've got a 91 corolla to back it up as my everday driver, and I think i'm going to invest in that 3s gte if i can find one.

Well what I'm doing with my 88 gt is swaping the 3sfe with the 94-98 MR-2 3S-gte with the 5spd tranny, ecu, and uncut wiring harness form jspecautosports.com for $3950 us. it's a spendy mother but it's worth the 245hp and 225lbs torque and you don't have to worry about awd conversion.
