Question 1989 With 1MZ-FE

BackGround: So, I Bought The '89 GT LiftBack... The Engine Had A Major Knock (Bearing On One Of The Big Ends Was Spun)... So, I Dropped In Another 3s-FE As I Had No Problem With The First Other Than The Knock. But, I Believe I Pushed Tht Engine Too Hard... So I Need Something Stronger... Especially @ The Low-End.

Point: Hence I Have Come To The Conclusion That I Want A "Six"... The 1MZ-FE. Any Info You Guys Can Throw @ Me? (As Far As: If Its Bolt On, Other Than Mounts, If There's A Problem w/ This Engine I Should Know About, ETC.)...

P.S.: I Wanted VVTi But, I Think There Might Be Compatibility Issues. The Camry Has A Shorter Final Gear & The Avalon Is A Heavier Car With More Power; Can I Mix The Engine & Trans?...

Thankx For Any Input... Other Than It's Not Worth It Or Can't Be Done (Cause I Don't Care, I Love That Car & It Can Be Done).

Re: 1989 With 1MZ-FE

its going to take some custom work. i've seen a few 5th gens with a v6. so i don't see why not in a 4th. i like the idea. i think the trans will mount right up but the other mounts need modified if i remember right. i don't see why the tranny from the camry wouldn't work with the avolon engine if they're both 1mz

Re: 1989 With 1MZ-FE

Cool, But What Would Need To Be Custom Done Specifically?...

Re: 1989 With 1MZ-FE

the other engine mounts needed moded. i think you need to use the cv's from the old engine or replace the wheel hubs with camry parts. the exhaust will need to be custom for sure.

heres a build page that might help 3vz-fe V6 conversion...5th gen

Re: 1989 With 1MZ-FE

the 7th gen motors will not go in. you have to do a whole world of mods to make it work properly. look at the link. its really helpful. if you dont feel like the 7th gen motor then, you can gte or v6. any alltrac motor will drop in, just gotta get an fe transmission on it to make it work. you can use the camry v6 or the avalon motor. they all drop in.
