Re: help, motor swap!

You should just be able to pull the motor from the 86 and install it in the 87 using the 87 harness and ecu

Re: help, motor swap!

yea what locker said.
you also dont need your transmission anymore either since its and auto and the 87 is manual. other than that i dont know what else you would need to know. there might be slight differences. make sure you observe and take note of everything.

Re: help, motor swap!

when doing a swap like the one your talking about your best friend is common sense.
Once you have your current motor pulled have a look at it beside the replacement and if your worried something isn't the same then swap em out.
the long blocks are basically identical so everything will bolt up.

I personally have installed a 92celica GTS motor (5sfe) into an 89 camry (3sfe) and ran the motor using 3sfe wiring harness and ecu. I basically just swapped the intake manifolds

Re: help, motor swap!

what if one of the motors is a single over head cam and the other is a DOHC, would this pose a problem with the ecu or would the DOHC head mount to the 2se block

Re: help, motor swap!

well, i think it would be best just to learn to drive manual. i say this because you have to convert a lot of stuff over in order to make it and auto. unless im completely wrong and you do know how to drive manual. imo, just take 87, its an upgrade. im thinking its a gts since its DOHC. the 3sfe arent. but the 3sge's are
