Talking 1986 Celica ST with a ghost in the heater

Hello,
I am an aircraft mechanic, and have doing this for more than 17 years, I know mechanics, and many other industrial fields. However even the best mechanic can be left scratching his head no and then, This is one of those time for me.

I have a Red, 1986 Celica ST, with all the Clear coat peeling off really bad. She has 362K on her, with the original motor (believe it or not) and she still purrs and drives like a brand new car. It is in dire need of a new clutch, and new rear struts. I have the new clutch disk, I just havent put it in yet.

I have fixed most of her issues, so far, a few more to go though!

I plan on repainting it, throwing some nice polished 17" rims on it, cleaning up the interior, and making this car a very nice looking daily driver. Possibly give it to my son in a few years.

Ok now lets get to a major pain in my arse, especially in winter,... The heater Fan.

I have done some searching both through out the web, and on this site, and found out, that my fan works great (directly connecting to the batt), my resistor pack, is in perfect condition (ohms and continuity check), and the 5 pin Relay (passenger side, outer kick panel) makes its usuall click when I move the selector switch from low thru high in the climate controls. However nothing happens. I checked the leads going to the resistor pack, and they have no juice at all to them no matter what setting I put the fan speed on. So Im guessing the relay has died, despite it still making its little clicky sound.
Occasionally the fan will turn on, only on the highest setting though, and slowly start to spin up, then die back out again. And thats only occasionally. I have checked the entire system, even the ducting itself, its free and clear. Prior to its demise it was working very good!

Any help here? The fan was working like a champ, then one morning it just stopped. No, the fuse isnt blown LOL.

Im looking for help here, and pretty quick, The winter mornings are coming fast, and no fog doesnt work very well. Frankly Im going broke on paper towels.

OK, I went tot the junk yard and scavenged several parts, I replaced the resisitor pack, all the relays (that I know of) I even replaced the aluminum one next to the master cylinder. No change.

The engine ironically now idles lower and smoother. LOL

The only things I havent replaced yet are the head unit, the fan, and the heat exchanger.

Any ideas? Im leaning toward the head unit switch being bad. I mean a switch being used to 22 years is bound to eventually fail.

Yeah I found it out finally. The fan selector switch has fried, which then took out the motor. So replaced both, works great, although now chunks of some light brown powdery debris keep peppering me in the face everytime I kick it up to full.
