87 celica possible fuel system problem
so my car is doing the same things it did before i changed spark plugs after running fine since may it died when i pushed the accelerator and now it wont turn over im being told it has something to do with fuel so far i have heard:
-fuel pump -fuel filter -air in fuel fuel lines ive been told its easy to check fuel filter and fuel lines BUT i do not know my ways around a car :( im a computer nerd if anyone can possibly explain where these are and what they look like please let me know i dont want to have to change fuel pump had to help step dad change fuel pump on my parents ford explorer last year...too bad we arent on good terms right now lol |

i am doubting it is the starter because starter would not cause it to die on the highway by pushing the accelerator, as for elecrtical system i dont know and i dont even know where i would start looking.

decided to check my spark plugs today and what do u know one of them isnt sparking bought new ones still didnt work so i took one of the wires off the other plug and tested the new plug and it worked so i need to replace either distributor cap or just the wires are the wires removable on an 87 celica if so whats an easy way to remove them ??

If you mean, can the wires be easily replaced, yes. They just pull of the plug and distributor. But maybe that's not what you meant. Spend what you can afford on a good set to ensure consistent spark at right temp. Cheap sets start around $25 and Toyota set goes around $80. Denso/NGK should run around $35-40.

yeah i keep being told that the wires are not removable so i ordered in a distributor cap with rotor and all new wires cost me 85 bucks and i will have it tomorrow. now is there anything i need to know before i try to replace it??

Just two 8mm bolts holding on the cap. The plug wires absolutely come off the cap, but if you already got a new cap and rotor, at least you know those are new clean parts:) Just make sure to match the wire numbers, cylinder numbers, and distributor cap numbers. The cap and wires should already be numbered, so just remember the #1 cylinder is at the other end of the engine from the distributor.
