Problem with 87 Celica GT
so i just bought my first car its a 87 Celica GT and i am not very automotivly inclined and i cannnot find out what is causing the problem with it. When i start it up sometimes it will start fine other times it will turn over then just sputter and stall also when it does start if i touch the gas the rpms drop and the oil pressure drops and it stalls occasionally if i get it started i can just barely push on the gas and it wont do that but if i push the accelerator too far it just sputters and then it happens again i am having mixed answers from everyone i talk to varying from it being as simple as putting in fuel injector cleaner and letting it run through once or twice to being fuel pump related and i have also heard something about an accelerator sensor and like i said i dont know that much about cars so i have no clue what it could be plz if u have some light u can shed on this subject plz do i would like to actually be able to drive my first car :P

Re: Problem with 87 Celica GT
I don't know how it is on your car, but that sounds just like my first car. It was a 95' trans am. Come to find out i had the wrong computer in it. Changed that and everything worked fine. But like I said, your car might have something different.

Re: Problem with 87 Celica GT
The reason you get mixed responses is b/c it's very difficult to diagnose accurately over the internet. Also, it could be a number of different causes. You have to proceed trouble-shooting in a very orderly manner in a process of elimination. A shotgun approach will just leave you more confused. Find yourself a trusted mechanic by referral of friends or family. To learn more about your car, go to st162.com That's where most of us 4th Gen'ers hang out. You'll get some knowledgeable help there.
