87 Idle problems

My 87 celica (at times) almost stalls on me... i normally idle at around 2 thousand RPM and its went down to 1000 and sometimes under. i also started it up and it jumped to 2 thousand and dropped extremely fast... and almost died on me... any ideas with what i should do/whats wrong?

Canada Re: 87 Idle problems

ISC = idle speed control and/or check for loose, damaged and detached vacuum hoses on the engine throttle body or elsewhere.

Make sure to check ignition timing and check the plugs too, ie general tune up. If your "normal" idle 2000 RPM, that's way too high. Normal idle is 750-800 RPM, max

Re: 87 Idle problems

No problem. I had a vacuum hose slip off once and my idle became very erratic. Hope it's something simple. Good luck.

Canada Re: 87 Idle problems

That reminds me, if all else checks out ok, it could be a bad AFM or AFM connection.
