Adding an EGR to a 3SGTE JDM engine?

Hi I picked up a 2nd Gen 3S-GTE JDM engine, and am curently cleaing it up and prepping it for my ST162.

I am located in Vancouver BC, Canada and am a little concerned with passing my Emissions Test.

I know that the JDM engine does not have a EGR system on it. and was wondering if it is possible to add one?

If this can not be done, would you have any tips for helping me pass my Emissions test?

Thanks

Re: Adding an EGR to a 3SGTE JDM engine?

Check w/ the guys on celicatech.com or st162.com. I suspect the answer is 'no, you can't add an EGR.' However, you may be able to port the cylinder head and manifold, but I expect you'll have to acquire the USDM 2nd 3SGTE ECU and add all the various sensors, etc (you may need a USDM wire harness as opposed to the JDM harness).

I assume you have a visual as well as tail pipe inspection, like we do here in California? If not, you could well be fine as the Japanese have quite strict emission standards, but don't do it via an EGR valve.

Re: Adding an EGR to a 3SGTE JDM engine?

Awsome, Thanks, for the Help.

There is no visual test, so I might try Just taking the car through emissions, when i drop in the new engine and see if it passes. But if it does not , then Yea I figured I would have to find a USDM ECU, or perhaps find an aftermarket replacement.

Thanks for the help.
