What The Head Is Going On Here?
I am new to the Celica scene. I am a converted Prelude owner.
I have three 86-87 Celica GT-S's. One of the motors what suppose to be some sort of high performance setup with a non-standard head on it. It has markings of "11111-88360 Yamaha" on the front above the exhaust ports. All of my other GT-S heads do not have this marking. Yesterday I bought another car and it had this same marking on it. So I am confused. I know that Yamaha has partnered with Toyota for many years so I am not surprised to learn that Yamaha built Toyota's heads but I am not sure why some of the heads have this marking and some don't. What do these markings mean? What is the difference, if any. Thanks for any help. |

Hey apexnow, There is a big difference on the heads. on the the 3s-gte motors, yamaha built those heads, and they are wider than 75 degrees for more air flow. Its a racing head for the 3s-gte motors. Yamaha also designed the head for the 2zz-ge motor in the 7th gen Celica's as well. Toyota designed the heads on the other engines such as the 3s-fe motor, and 5s-fe motor. The difference is,G stands for wide angle head wider than 75 degrees, and the f stands for Fuel Economy,a head less than 75 degrees. I hope that helps you out |

Re: What The Head Is Going On Here?
Thanks for the response.
I follow what you are saying but I thought the F heads came on the Celica ST & GT models and the G heads came on the Celica GT-S models. (I am only talking years 86-89) All of the motors I have came out of GT-S cars and all say 3S-GE on the emissions sticker. |

You are correct, so are you saying some 3SGE heads are stamped while others are not? If so, I wouldn't worry too much about it. AFAIK, the 3SGE heads were all made by Yamaha and if you have some unstamped, it was probably just a production decision. Here is a link to the head angles, etc: Toyota Celica Online: head differences Last edited by Rick89GTS : 01-26-2008 at 03:33 PM. |

Re: What The Head Is Going On Here?
I had a local mechanic tell me he believes the 11111-88360 Yamaha heads are probably JDM motors and the non stamped are USDM. He is checking a reference to confirm that.
I am not worried, I just want to be knowledgeable about my cars and want to be able to have an answer for those that may accuse me of using a cheater engine at the track. |

Re: What The Head Is Going On Here?
Whether or not it's a USDM/JDM thing, I don't know; however, I can confirm that you have the correct stock head for the 3SGE engine.
