Just bought an engine for 86 GTS....

and I wanted to get some opinions on what to replace before installing. I am planning on replacing the timing belt, front and rear oil seal, exhaust and intake gasket, thermostat, and cluth.

What else do you guys recomend replacing before install?

Thanks

if your doing the tbelt do the water pump as well.
Im drawing a blank at what gen celica that is but if its an S series motor (3sfe, 3sge, 5sfe, 3sgte) they are not known for having issues with the intake and exhaust gaskets

Order engine rebuild kit from Toyota and use everything in it. Toyota replace most of the paper gasket with metal one. Do head gasket also unless you know its pretty new.

Re: Just bought an engine for 86 GTS....

The engine I got is the 3sge. The engine is one of those JDM engines and I was not really planning on removing the head to replace the gasket, but I have thought about it.

Thanks for your time

Re: Just bought an engine for 86 GTS....

Make sure your manifolds are not warped. The exhaust mani warping is very common, and if some idiot every replaced intake/exhaust gaskets w/o using the proper tools to remove old gasket, you probably have swirls that could easily become a PITA vacuum leak (yes, that happened to me). You've got everything apart, so make sure everything is as close to BGB spec as possible before spending hours putting it all back together again.
