MR2 or CELICA??? HELP!!!!!

im thinking of switching to a 1986 MR2,instead of my 88' celica gt-s with jap 90' engine.............which would be cheaper????which would be faster????(im thinking the celica of course)the thing is i dont have much money but if i sell my celica i can get the MR2 to its full potential which would problably never be close to my celica......if i keep the celica i have no money for it and it is in very dirty condition.....no tires, needs tranny swapped,i already have it just never got around to it,umm the MR2 is in top condition just has a piece of crap motor(STOCK!!!!)so i dont kno,can someone help me.............leave any comments and suggestions for which car to keep........................and dont just jump rite on the celica without good reasoning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: MR2 or CELICA??? HELP!!!!!

Tires are cheap. If you already have the new GTS tranny and a 3sge out of a Celica, that's your easiest swap.

I don't know about speed. It probably comes down to if you crave the rwd push or fwd pull. I expect the MR2 is lighter and quicker, but I've never looked at the specs on that.

Have you cruised the MR2 sites to see how easy it is to drop the 3sge from a Celica into the back of the MR2?

Re: MR2 or CELICA??? HELP!!!!!

Celica + 3S-GTE = Faster then MR2.
86 MR2 come with 4A-GE. You can try to fit the 3S-GTE in there but lots of work.
Since you don't have money and could never got to do anything with it, just buy one you don't have to work on it.

Re: MR2 or CELICA??? HELP!!!!!

I'll say about the same or just a but faster. NA 2nd gen MR2 has 2.2L 5S-FE, 135HP 140ft-lb.
If you have too much work on your Celica and the MR2 don't need any work done to it, get it.
The thing with MR2 is, engine gotta come out from the bottom. Also you don't have much space on top to service the engine. So you'll be dropping the engine lots of time.
