4th gen wheel options
Hi,
I've done a search and came up with little. I have a 1988 GTS and am wondering what wheels from other cars (other celicas, other toyotas or anything) that people have used on this 4th gen celica? I find the origianl mags to be worse than many hubcaps on the market in my opinion. Thanks for any help ps. my mechanic thought 205/60/15's would rub but I would still like to know if people have upgraded either in appearance or size the wheels on these cars. Thanks Last edited by 88GEN4 : 07-23-2007 at 06:33 PM. |

Re: 4th gen wheel options
you could also use the newer celica rims i think theyre the 6th gen if yours is a 5 lug my 89 is and those 15s look great on them just make sure you use 50 series tires

Re: 4th gen wheel options
I'm pretty sure all FWD Celicas have the same 5x100 pattern. Also Chevy Cavaliers, maybe Neons. The 6th gen 5 spoke wheels are 7" wide vs most of the rest which are 6. I use them for my track tires, it makes a difference in handling.

Re: 4th gen wheel options
My 88 GTS stock size is 205-60-14. To keep the same ratio and not screw w/ my speedo, I'd suggest a 205-55-15 if you want to upsize to 15" wheels.
If you put a 205-50-15, you'll end up being off on the speedo by about 2 mph and the tire will wear a bit faster than you're used to seeing how it's doing more revolutions per mile - although probably not as significant as tire choice. At 205-60-15, you'll be doing about 3 miles faster than your speedo - an issue that could bite you in the butt w/ a cop and radar if you live in a zero tolerance area. Plus, you are about 1" over stock in total diameter, so yeah, your mechanic could be correct about the rubbing. If you change the stock ratio, it'll also have a minor effect on the gear ratio, but probably not enough to notice in terms of power. And yeah, any 5x100 should fit. I know some guys have gone to 215-40-17 w/o rubbing, but only if you're at stock height and haven't lowered the vehicle. Otherwise, you'll probably have to roll your fenders and go w/ a larger offset. My recommendations to keep the stock tire/speed/gear ratio are: 205-60-14 205-55-15 205-50-16 215-40-17 |

Agreed. I've run all 3 sizes on my 89GTS and 88 AllTrac and stick with OEM's 6th Gen 15x7 or 7th Gen 16x6.5" best bang for your buck. |
