Helpful 3SGTE swap info
If anyone is doing a 3sgte swap into a auto car, I found that the flywheel on a Lexus LS400 has the same 8 bolt pattern. I drilled my own holes in a auto flywheel from a 3SFE before I came upon the 1UZ flywheel. I think the 4age flywheel is also a 8 Bolt pattern, but not sure. Also if anyone is needing to make a wiring harness because they were scamed into buying a 3SGTE without the front clip (as my friend was by Nippon Motors). What I did was to use the two plugs to the ECU from the 3SFE that were the same and then I went to a salvage yard and bought two ECU plugs with about a foot of wires from a 90 Toyota Camry. I cut the two plugs carefully with a Dremel cutting wheel and glued them together with epoxy. I still ended up needing the AFM, Injector resistor, boost pressure sensor, and who knows what else since I'm waiting on a AFM and Boost sensor to make it run. I also noticed that the ignitor from the 3SFE has the same part number as a Lexus LS400 and the 3SGTE.

Re: Helpful 3SGTE swap info
Hey guys. I need your help with a few things. There is a VSV on the backside of the intake manifold that is on the passenger side. The two vacuum lines hanging from it are about 4 inches long. Does it hook between the boost pressure sensor and the one of the vacuum ports on the end of the manifold? Or is there even a VSV in line to the boost sensor? I just received the AFM and Boost sensor I was needing. I've also got a few coolant lines unhooked on the back side of the manifold on the drivers side. I'll post some pics. Also can i completely delete the coolant lines going to the intercooler thats top mounted?

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/b...Picture031.jpg can any one tell me what these 3sgte 4the gen colling tubes connect to. they must link to the top mount intercooler . the heater core is already hooked up. or maybe they should've been in line to the heater core. does anyone have a picture of one of one of these engines. There's next to no information on this generation of 3sgte on the web. Thanks |

Re: Helpful 3SGTE swap info
I just realized what I was looking at weren't coolant lines after all. they are vacuum tubes. the gold tubes in the picture that have no hoses connected to them. Does the little nipple joined to the bigger nipple run to a charcoal cannister? maybe one of them runs to a stock air cleaner box. I have the valve cover PCV hose running to the air cleaner. is there more than one hose going to the air filter housing on these?

Re: Helpful 3SGTE swap info
I could be wrong but I believe you connect the two big guys with a hard rubber hose and the small guy is a vacum line going to the intake mani.
again... could be wrong haven't touched a 3s in like a year and half

Re: Helpful 3SGTE swap info
I think you're right about the vac line. My next issue at hand is the Fuel Pressure Sol. It has a black/red wire and black/yellow wire going to it. I already have this wired to the ecu but the two 4 inch long vacuum lines are just hanging. Its what I thought was a VSV. Does anyone know what this hooks to? Its On the backside of the intake passenger side. The two lines hanging have finger pinch style hose clamps on the ends.
my picture didn't turn out right, i'll have to retake one. |

This is almost the same question as two posts above it. The answer is similar. Anybody who is posting a single sentence, asking about such a complex subject, is proving how much research they have or have not done. Really, this topic has been covered very very often, although its not always as easy as searching for certain key words. Usually the best bet imo, is to become a member on all of the different free toyota sites, and start looking at, well anything really. You'd be suprised how a post starts out and ends up. Ive seen people bring up 4th gen celicas in the middle of a camry conversation, and then there it goes off in that direction. So. Just look around and pay attention to the kind of vibes you give off. easy question:how hard would it be to get rid of the 3sge and throw a 3sgte in? easy answer: as far as engine swaps go, any of the 3s engines into a 3s platform will be relatively straight forward and somewhat easy. real answer: There are going to be rusted/difficult fasteners, stubborn harnesses, alot of confusion, and genuinely hard work for any old engine to be removed. And thats just removing it. I've been pulling my 3sge out of an 86 gts slowly in hour increments (damn cold in the garage) for about a month now. just dealing with problems as they come up, and doing so much research/homework, I could shit a 3sgte. I spent a lot of time looking into every option before I started to do ANY work at all. i plan on rebuilding the stock engine now. Its the type of thing that if you know you want to, and you know you can, then maybe you can. But if youre not very sure, and don't have alot of experience, you def don't want to start the project and then give up. So take the time it takes, no DESERVES, and don't get discouraged by prices, and not understanding parts. think I'll get off my high horse now... best of luck. |
