Re-gluing a Headliner

Note : I have only done this to a vinyl headliner, but it applies for cloth as well.

Alright, so this should be a simple task...well it is, if you are givin the proper glue. I learned how not to do it, so you can learn how

First - Grab some 3M Spray General Adhesive...the Super adhesive will not work (mistake #1 on my part, lol)

Second - remove headliner from the car, of course including the backing board. Make sure to label, and carefully place all pieces removed in a safe place. Be sure to place the screws with their respective item as to not get them mixed up, this will save time in the long run, especially since the...ie, visors, holy shit handles, hangers, dome light, etc. (mistake #2 on my part)

Once you have everything set up and ready to go, make sure you are in a well ventilated area, because that stuff is strong once you start spraying it.

I found the best way to do this whole operation is to start at the back of the headliner and work forward. Do it in sections, mainly because once you stick it down, it's pretty much stuck. Make sure to lay it flat, as wrinkles are a bitch to smooth out once layed. Some of the angles/curves can be very difficult. Don't get frustrated!

Unless you are great with things like this, expect to take at least two hours once you are ready to start gluing. Allow at least 24 hours to dry.

Key pointers :

1. Keep the material tight. Or else you will run out of it near the end, and be rather upset ;

2. Try not to get any glue on the exterior of the material...it looks horrible, and any dust in the air will stick to it ; and

3. Most importantly : Take your time. If your a rather impatient person, this may not be a good task for you. Make sure everything looks good before you are finished.

Good Luck, and Happy Gluing!
