To ensure its not a fuel pump you can jump the diagnostic's port. And a chiltons manual will tell you how to remove the distributor. Also I would check the coil.. But with the fuel pump to check it there's a diagnostics port on the drivers side right by the firewall. Stick a wire to connect the two lower connectors. But only connect the right side and left side connector with the ignition on. You should beable to hear a psh sound. That's the pressure regulator. And it will tell you if the pumps working.
